
A light earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 was recorded northeast of Antigua and Barbuda on Monday night, October 20, 2025, according to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre.
The tremor occurred at approximately 9:09 p.m. local time at a depth of 20 kilometres, with coordinates 17.99°N, 62.43°W. The epicentre was located about 117 kilometres northwest of St. John’s, 83 kilometres northeast of Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, and 135 kilometres north of Brades, Montserrat.
While some residents in Antigua reported feeling a brief shaking, there have been no reports of damage or injuries. The UWI Seismic Research Centre noted that the information was automatically generated and remains preliminary pending review by analysts.
Antigua and Barbuda lies within a seismically active zone of the eastern Caribbean, where moderate tremors occur periodically due to the interaction of the North American and Caribbean tectonic plates.
