Early Bedtime Policy Sparks Unrest at Youth Rehab Centre

A new 8 p.m. bedtime rule at the Denise Bowers Rehabilitation Center in Antigua has triggered backlash from residents, sources say.

The change, down from a previous 10 p.m. lights-out, reportedly led to frustration among the seven teenage boys housed at the facility. In protest, they allegedly kicked down bedroom doors, prompting staff to consider involving the authorities.

Officials say the earlier curfew aims to instill discipline and structure, but the reaction underscores the challenges of managing behaviour while maintaining residents’ well-being.

  1. Send the Faithful National #1 DOOFUS in there to straighten them out since that person is so knowledgeable on everything and always has some solutions to problems.

  2. I guess they prefer being incarcerated with grown men. I bet they do not so they better behave themselves and appreciate the structure, security, cleanliness, and access to clean toilets and shower facilities where they are currently housed. Comfort can turn into extreme hardship in a heartbeat.

  3. But these boys not easy. They broke down the door to achieve what? What is their goal? To give the government addition expense? Let them know Alfa Nero money done spendout. So no money there for extra work.

  4. So how you sending grown men to sleep at 8pm? I mean I understand that they are under discipline but come on. At least 9pm. These boys come into these facilities with alot of rage. You can see by the strength they uses to kick down that door. Wow.

  5. Hmmm so they wanted to call authority. Aren’t they the authority? Don’t they have at least one lawman or someone of the likes on shift?

  6. He’s a solution, lights out at 10 pm and at 8pm and 9 pm each person must present themselves to who ever on duty.
I work for the probation Service in the UK and we use a system similar

  7. Why shouldn’t these guys go to bed at 8? They ere cause of discipline cause they can’t go jail, anyone think they shouldn’t follow protocols is bad influence to our youths if u wanted freedom u wouldn do such to be there

  8. I don’t see anything wrong with 8 o’clock. And the they should abide by the rules. At least they are not on vacation..

  9. How can they follow rules when they’re living in a hotel.First of all Boys Training School/Rehabilitation. Are they on Training Or are they Rehabilitate from what? who came up with the idea to change the name from skerritts or Juvenile Detention . It’s a place for punishment you are inmates not in a hotel (seems like someone have a phobia of the name skerrits).

  10. The thing is you guys are trying to run a (TRAINING SCHOOL) with all this niceness plus hotel style living and your students are a bunch of mischievous, unruly, up to no good young men, so your ideology will be struggle.
It’s all about discipline and the right people must be in place to implement this discipline. I remembered those Skeritt days, seeing our young men dress in all white with shirt tucked in pants walking in line heading to church on Sunday mornings, now that was discipline and a place you didn’t want to go.
So before the School aspect get going, we need to first see the rules and regulations being followed.

  11. My grandmother woulda say, “Dem wha hardworking fi do!”
Apparently they need a more stern hand. Wha kinda behavior is that?

  12. How was the new rule implemented? Was it just a case of the persons in charge giving the ‘order’?
We are supposed to be rehabilitating these young boys so that they can grow into better men.
What about if you held meaningful discussions with the inmates?
You can lure a fly easier with honey than with salt purge.
