Drought in Panama Canal Zone Not Impacting Antigua and Barbuda Shipments

1

Despite concerns surrounding the ongoing drought in the Panama Canal region, shipments to Antigua and Barbuda remain unaffected, as confirmed by Port Manager Darwin Telemaque.

The primary supply chain from Miami, responsible for the majority of goods destined for the islands, has not experienced significant disruptions due to the Panama Canal’s drought conditions.

While the canal’s reduced water levels have raised global trade worries, Telemaque stated that no immediate impact has been seen in the Caribbean flow.

Though concerns persist, Antigua and Barbuda maintains a stable goods flow, with its connection to Miami acting as a buffer against Panama Canal disruptions.(Observer)

  1. While there is no immediate impact, there will be in the long term. In terms of our port operations, what plans do we have in terms of adaptation and mitigation of these potential climate risks?
