Driftwood Out, Cleon Athill In

Cleon Athill is the candidate for the St. Paul’s constituency for the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Earlier this evening ANR received a copy of a notice advising that Gregory ‘Driftwood‘ Athill pulled out of the Primary race, which was set for tonight.

Athill will now face off with Paul Chet Greene, the current MP for St. Paul’s.

General elections are constitutionally due in Antigua and Barbuda in 2023.

HYPOCRISY at its best . i have attended a few MOVEMENT meetings and heard Cleon Athill said that the MOVEMENT is NON POLITICAL, The Movement is for Good Governance and is a WATCHDOG for all Governments. This is a DISGRACE. The UPP is now taken over by the MOVEMENT. SERPENT ,GLADYS POTTER and CLEON ATHILL. The Movement is FINISHED.According to Peter Wickham the UPP Swallowed the MOVEMENT.How can Anyone trust these Guys. SERPENT ,CLEON ATHILL and Gladys POTTER SHAME ON YOU GUYS.

    • M.DONALD you are contradicting yourself. First, you said that the UPP is taken over by the MOVEMENT and then secondly according to Peter Wickham that the UPP swallowed the MOVEMENT. While the second statement did not come from you, I would like to know from you which statement is correct. So because the MOVEMENT as an organization is non-political, does that mean that a member of the MOVEMENT cannot venture into electoral politics?To me all that is required is that a MOVEMENT member who enters the political arena should relinquish any position that is held in the organization. The MOVEMENT per se is ideologically non-political (it criticizes any Party that does not adhere to the principles of good governance) but that does not preclude a member from running for political office.

  9. Harold Lovell and the UPP should DIS- ASSOCIATE the UPP from the SNAKE PIT with Mr. Knight. Knight is NOT doing the UPP any good. I am fed up how kNIGHT CAN CURSE EVERY NIGHT. In my humble opinion Knight will damage the UPP going forward. When Hon. Gaston Browne say anything on Pointe Fm on Saturdays. Knight will promote the narratives on the Snake Pit each day the following week. This is not Good for the UPP. He is keeping Gaston Browne utterances on the AIRWAVES. Knight is damaging the UPP.   11. Why did Driftwood CHOOSE to pullout? Did he do a Joanne Massiah where he chose not to “legitimize the process”? Or was it for another reason? He publicly said that he expected a primary and would respect the results of the primary. So why pullout???

Haven’t you heard the audio making the rounds of Shawn Nicholas begging Fled to easy up on Driftwood because it wasn’t sounding good that he was saying Driftwood got money to run? Didn’t you hear about the contents of his letter to the party outlining why he pulled out. Fled destroyed him good and proper yesterday. He did not stand a chance last night, and that was the intention. This morning Fled apologized to Driftwood on the air. If I was Driftwood, I would be consulting my attorney.
      Serpent gets his deputy chairman from the Movement, and now he has Cleon, Gisele, Whener, Valerie, Gladys, and a whole set of them with him. I will no longer go to meetings. There is no more Movement.
      Lovell, your days are numbered as leader of the UPP. You cause your own demise as a politician. You make them chase off all the people who support you and now you stand like the cheese – ALONE.

They have their people behind the scenes just waiting to get back in power. UPP under the leadership of Lovell will never see power again in Antigua and Barbuda. New heads are needed. Baldwin was a good man surrounded by some rotten eggs that think their university degrees made them entitled to run country, when all they did was to his administration in the gutter. They tell Antiguans they want them to steer clear of the handout mentality, when they went in there for 2 terms and help themselves, while Antiguans were going hungry. UPP cannot rise again with the badminded heads they have behind the scene. It’s going to take a new party with candidates that genuinely care about people and love for country to overthrow corrupt ALP.

    • Hardly anyone in UPP is a people person. Former speaker of the house is a prime example. These people just puffed up and power hungry . They don’t genuinely care for poor people or for the majority of Antiguans in general, so I don’t know why they don’t leave politics alone. Having a university education doesn’t make you a leader for the people. The majority of them don’t have any personality to interact with the common man because they have a false complex.   16. Before Driftwood finish writing he letter, Observer already had Cleon win in the paper. Go back a week. Nothing still about Bowen. They say the leader have to confirm it first before they could print it or put it on the party radio station. Bowen not in their elite circle, so they nuh want he. Big laugh.   17. ‘Driftwood’ obviously deserved the axing he received from his political “friends”. Clearly he had no personal convictions as to his capacity to represent the constituency for which he appeared to work so hard. He has obviously accepted his assigned duncy-bat, just-a-taxi-man status, and so easily folded, crumbled under the weight of a “doctor” whose CV would describe her as University Lecturer. The fact that he bowed so easily highlights his lack of fitness for the enormous and serious task of serving as a member of Parliament. I don’t know the boy(for that’s what he has proven to be) but I wonder if he might be the same one nicknamed “Half it”?? Did he pull another successful “half it” stunt again? Did he get his pound of flesh this time or did he just demand cash? What a comedy!!
    And who is this Cleon Athill anyway? I remember hearing of this character a few years ago when she went on a test run trying to call out all Antiguans to join her in a picket outside a ‘Syrian’ store located at the corner of High and Thames Street. Reason? The lady claimed that she was called a monkey by the store owner! The race card was being tried with absolutely no effect. She and a few of her POWA co-conspirators chattered their nonsensical verbiage for a week or two then like the marches of recent times simply fizzled. I think I heard her some time this year on radio again trying to rile up John Public with some crazy story of having personal Information as relayed to her by a certain taxi man (Driftwood?? ) who clandestinely drove a certain number of white guests to a certain hotel. The inference then was these men were coronavirus positive…… Not surprisingly, the story failed to gain traction and just like the monkey picket, fizzled. She too will fizzle in the short run, based on her record thus far. What a comedy of errors!

  20. Approximately one year ago I was engaged in a conversation with Cleon Athill . I told Her how I admired Her drive for Good Governance. She promised me that She would never enter the POLITICAL realm because The MOVEMENT Organization was formed as a WATCHDOG over all Governments. I was surprised when someone told to read ANR. I personally is very DISAPPOINTED.So I joined the other utterances in this medium. How can You be a WATCHDOG for the UPP when you are one of THEM. I would NEVER attend another MOVEMENT meeting. However they realized the Lovel need help bcuz the cadre of individuals UPP had as potential candidates, were just not up to standard….
