Dredging operations at Crabbs Peninsula and St. John’s Harbour are set to intensify later this month with the arrival of new heavy-duty equipment, according to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant.
Speaking at Thursday’s post-briefing session, Merchant said the equipment is expected to arrive by the end of November, enabling crews to accelerate dredging and deepen key channels used for cargo and maritime operations.
The initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance port efficiency and marine safety while supporting large-scale infrastructure and shipping activities.
Merchant noted that the upgraded dredging capacity will also complement the country’s broader development agenda, ensuring that both commercial and cruise vessels can safely access the nation’s ports.
Officials say the project aligns with the government’s long-term strategy to strengthen maritime infrastructure and accommodate future economic expansion in shipping and tourism.
