
Dr. Nicole Phillip Appointed Director (Ag) for the Global Campus Sites
The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Nicole Phillip as Director (Ag), Global Campus Sites, effective August 1, 2025. Prior to this appointment, she served as Deputy Director (Ag) Global Campus Sites from 2022 and Head of The UWI Global Campus Grenada Site, from 2014 -2022.
Dr Phillip has served in the field of education for the past 19 years. As Head of the Grenada Site, she increased student enrolment in the Campus’ Senate-approved and Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) programmes and courses. Under her leadership, the Site also expanded its outreach activities to include three annual lecture series, the Carol Bristol Distinguished Lecture, the Reparations Lecture and the Emancipation Lecture, as well as award ceremonies and school visits.
Before serving at the Global Campus, Dr Phillip held several senior academic and administrative positions at the T.A. Marryshow Community College, including Acting Principal (2013); Dean and Associate Dean of Arts, Science, and Professional Studies (2008-2014); Chair of the Department of Arts and Humanities (2004-2008); and Senior Lecturer (2003-2004).

Dr Phillip holds a PhD in History from The University of the West Indies and is recognised as a distinguished historian and published author. Her first book, Women in Grenadian History 1783-1983, published in 2010, won The University of the West Indies Press Best-Selling Scholarly Monograph in 2013. In 2017, she co-edited the book Perspectives on the Grenada Revolution 1979 -1983 with fellow Grenadian historian and archivist John Angus Martin, marking the first publication of papers from an Open Campus country conference. She collaborated with HarperCollins UK to co-author Caribbean Social Studies Books 2 and 3 in 2018and Collins History for Trinidad and Tobago Forms 1, 2 & 3 in 2022. Between 2015 and 2019, she published three peer-reviewed articles and presented at several conferences on Grenadian and Caribbean History. In recognition of her scholarly contributions, she was honoured by the Global Campus with the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Research and Publication. Her latest publication, Collins Junior History of Grenada (2023), is now being used in secondary schools in Grenada.
Over the past six years, Dr. Phillip has also authored one book chapter, one journal article and one magazine article. She has presented at seven local, regional and international conferences, including: International Journal of Arts and Science Conference, Boston, Massachusetts, 2018 and the Association for the Study of Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD), Williamsburg, Virginia, 2019.
Over the years, she has served on several university committees and boards, including the Global Campus Academic Board; The UWI Library Advisory Committee; The UWI Senate Appeal Committee; the Global Campus Research Ethics Committee; the Academic Board Sub-Committee on Student Matters, and The UWI Press Editorial Board.
Outside of the University, Dr Phillip serves on several local committees and boards in Grenada, including the Grenada National Accreditation Council, the Grenada Cultural Foundation and is Deputy Chair of the Grenada National Reparations Commission. She provides community service by giving lectures and talks on History, Culture and other related issues. In May 2022, she appeared on the BBC documentary ‘Grenada-Confronting the Past’.
