Authorities at the José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport of the Americas (AILA) have intercepted 20 containers of liquid cocaine disguised as hair care products in two separate operations.
Agencies discovered the narcotics that were being prepared for international shipment to France and Australia.
During the first operation, a canine unit alerted authorities to a suspicious package in one of the airport’s storage facilities. Officials opened the box to find 12 containers of hair products filled with liquid cocaine.
According to shipping documentation, the package was allegedly being sent by an individual with an address on Charles de Gaulle Avenue in Santo Domingo East to a recipient at an apartment on Rue Lucen Deuceman in France.
In a subsequent interdiction, operational units discovered another suspicious box during routine X-ray screening. Upon inspection, authorities found eight additional containers disguised as hair treatment and shampoo products containing liquid cocaine.
This shipment was reportedly being sent by a woman allegedly residing in the February 27 Extension area to a man in Boronia, Australia.
The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) will determine the exact weight of the seized substances in the coming hours.
