Arson Charge Dropped, Deportation Ordered

A Dominican Republic national is to be deported after prosecutors dropped an arson charge linked to a fire at the Immigration Detention Centre in Coolidge.

Luis De Los Santos, 31, was denied bail last week but had the case against him dismissed when he reappeared in court on Tuesday. An immediate deportation order was issued.

The blaze, reported on 18 August at the Antigua Air Station Military Base, damaged two detention rooms before firefighters brought it under control. De Los Santos, who was in custody at the time, was treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.

  1. Just like that? Then all other prisoners currently imprisoned for arson should be released as well! Who is to pay for the destruction of PUBLIC property – the magistrate? the Police? taxpayers?
Is this how they plan to resolve the case of the murder of 9 year-old CHANTEL CRUMP by a young woman also from the Domincan Republic??????
