Donna Chaia Named Third Vice Chair
The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is completing key internal appointments as part of its preparations for general elections, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirming that Donna Chaia has been elected to the party’s executive as Third Vice Chair.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne programme, Browne said the party is moving to put its full organisational structure in place, alongside finalising its slate of candidates.
He highlighted Chaia’s elevation during a discussion on the party’s readiness efforts, noting that her appointment forms part of a broader push to strengthen the ABLP’s leadership team.
“Among them… our third vice chair… Comrade Donna Chaia,” Browne said, as he outlined newly confirmed executive members.
The Prime Minister said the ABLP’s leadership selections are based on performance and commitment, describing the party as “a meritocratic institution” in which advancement depends on consistent contribution.
He added that individuals who actively defend and promote the party are recognised through leadership roles, particularly as the organisation prepares for an election.
Browne said completing the executive is a key step in placing the party in a “state of readiness,” alongside ratifying candidates and mobilising supporters across constituencies.
The ABLP is expected to formalise both its executive and candidate slate at its upcoming convention, as it transitions into full campaign mode ahead of the next general election.
