Dominica’s most iconic female broadcaster dies

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has led the tributes for the former programme manager of the state-owned DBS radio, Shermaine Green-Browne, following her sudden death in the United States on Thursday.

Skerrit, expending “sincere condolences” to her family, said that the veteran broadcaster was “certainly one of the best-known media voices in Dominica,’ and that he was “very sad to hear of her death.

“Shermaine Green-Browne was one of the great Dominicans, a patriotic Dominican who gave all of her life service to Dominica and Dominicans. It is written that the Lord giveth and the Lord takes away and blessed be his name.

“We pray for her soul …this is the fragility of life that at one point we have to die, but we never welcome death…but that’s the reality of life,” said Skerrit, adding “you cannot speak about media, you cannot speak about communication, you cannot speak about broadcasting and certainly you cannot speak of DBS radio without speaking of Shermaine Green-Browne”.

Her family said that the veteran broadcaster, who was in her 60’s, died at a hospital in Miami after she had been found unconscious at the home she shared with her husband, Paul Browne, a Jamaican-born former diplomat.

Her son, Kyle Anthony Browne said that efforts would be made to return her body to Dominica and that the sudden death has rocked the entire family.

  1. My deepest condolences goes out to the family and friends of shermain green browne may her soul rest in peace

  2. Condolences but the way Dominica pm skerritt jump on worshipping her stint as media personnel prove that she allowed government corruption in a muzzled media environment, just like in Antigua we have a Jamaican here berford or some sort a name that is here muzzling free speech that he couldn’t do in he home country Jamaica, a media personnel must not be music to a politician ear.
