‘Stop Pointing Fingers—Find the Truth’: Dominican Leader Urges Fair Investigation

The leader of the Dominican community in Antigua and Barbuda, Alex Martínez, has called for a fair and transparent investigation into the recent murder of a nine-year-old girl, urging authorities to focus on identifying those truly responsible rather than placing blame on an entire community.

In a Facebook Live address, originally delivered in Spanish and translated, Martínez expressed deep sorrow over the crime and reaffirmed the Dominican community’s condemnation of such acts. However, he also raised concerns about growing anti-Dominican sentiment following reports that a Dominican national may be implicated.

“Our community is being dragged into this when the actions of one person should not define an entire group. If someone commits a crime, they alone must face justice,” he stated. “We demand answers, but we also demand fairness. Justice must be served, but it must be served properly.”

Martínez highlighted that while the community stands in solidarity with the victim’s family, there have been disturbing online comments inciting hostility against Dominicans in Antigua and Barbuda. He warned against retaliatory violence and urged the authorities to ensure that all individuals, regardless of nationality, receive due process.

“There are voices spreading hate, calling for attacks on Dominicans. This is dangerous. Innocent people should not suffer for the actions of one person. Let the police do their work, and let the truth come to light,” he added.

  1. This is a fair statement one person action should not affect the whole community. Pleas , let’s think and act accordingly!!!

  2. Oh please every one just agreeing to this because it’s spanish but when jamaicans do something oh it deport all jamicans an send them back to their countries right?

  3. Mr.Martinez Rep for the DR community: your statement were only to try and secure your community safety ,not one time it sound like you were offering a deep apology to Antiguans never acknowledging your girl did something wrong, all your concerns are making sure your community doesn’t get backlash no regret for the Antiguan community Antiguans know this girl didn’t do the killing alone the others will be found, Antiguan will not seeks retaliation against innocent persons ,what commitment can you offer Antiguans that this kind of Evil wickedness will never happen again in our country .As for that girl immediate family they have to leave Antigua she can’t rob a family of their daughter and able to have her family nextdoor. Mr. Martinez it is offensive when offering an apology and the other person cannot see your eyes unless your glasses is prescribe.
