A Dominican Republic national living in Antigua says she is beginning to feel safer after police arrested the man accused of brutally assaulting her last month.
Crizzel Alexandra Mateo Javier, 25, was attacked on 26 August during a dispute in which she was struck on the head with a piece of wood and left unconscious. The incident took place in front of her young son.
After weeks of fear, police confirmed that the suspect is now in custody. Javier said the arrest has eased her anxiety but stressed the case is not over, with a court hearing set for 16 September.
She thanked the media for highlighting her ordeal, which she said brought global attention and support, and urged other women facing abuse to speak out.

“I am stronger now, but I still want protection and justice,” she said.
Javier, who moved to Antigua a year ago in search of a better life for her son, continues to deal with the physical and emotional scars of the attack.

The headline made me think the situation happened overseas in DR and the attacker was caught here.. Wondering if the guy is mentally ill and just randomly attacked her or did she take the man’s money without fulfilling her end of the deal.. Not saying he had any right to hit her in the head with a piece of wood because he could of potentially killed her or caused life lasting injury..If the man is not mentally ill I believe there is some form of frustration behind the action but not justifying it he had no right…..
Please deport as soon as possible. We have our own problems in Antigua to import more problematic people with their problems. Some people just can’t help themselves and certain things follow people where ever they go unfortunately. I use to think was the environment but I realise now it’s the people.
We really need to be careful who we associate ourselves with. Happy that your in a better headspace now. Stay positive
This is great news that she got her abuser held. She is a brave Spanish woman. Justice for you lady
