The police have arrested and charged 31-year-old Luis De Los Santos, a native of the Dominican Republic with Arson.
He is accused of causing the fire which destroyed the Immigration Detention Centre, at Coolidge.
It was reported that at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Monday, 18 August 2025, the Police and Fire Department responded to a fire report at the Antigua Air Station Military Base, where the Immigration Detention Centre is housed.
On arrival they met two detention rooms engulfed in flames. Firefighters managed to extinguished the flames, averting further damage to existing buildings.
The accused, who was detained by the Immigration Department inside one of the units, was treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. He is expected before the court sometime today.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

How was this guy able to get anything flammable?
Are our police real or serious?
Do they have an understanding of the English language?
Does anyone proof read what what the feed the media with?
The story is captioned, “Dominican Republic National Arrested and Charged With Arson.”.
Arson is the deliberate setting of fire to property.
The story however ends, “The Cause Of The Fire Is Still Under Investigation.”.
Am i the only person finding something wrong with the beginning and the ending of the story?
If the police have gi e as far as laying charges, it tells me that they have completed their investigation.
To say that the cause of the fire still being investigated is to say that the cause is still predetermined.
If the cause is still undetermined and being investigated how could the police conclude that it is arson and have preferred charges?
Are the blind leading the blind?
It is no winder that cases are in the system for such long periods.
The courts need to set a time line by which cases should reach trial.
If found guilty jail his ass good and plenty and after serving his sentence declare him persona no grata. When these people come here they also bring their criminal way of life, then we reward them with amnesty just for votes
Wha happen? He na want go home? But seriously- I hope he makes a full recovery and that he is given grace and shown mercy because something is seriously and obviously wrong if he would rather die than be deported.
@Straight Shooter
A person can be charged with a crime and investigations into the crime can still be ongoing, to determine motive, if they had accomplices etc. Do you need a spotter before you pull the trigger?
I can imagine the stress of being detained, but risking lives with fire? That’s unacceptable.
But what he try to burin down the people place for? Was this an attempted suicide? Smfh
It would useful if they said the fire seems to have started where he was housed, because this seems like a nothing case and states nothing new really.
Mass deportations now!
