Dominican Consul Meets Antigua Immigration Chief Over Nationals’ Welfare
The Consul General of the Dominican Republic, Joaquín Díaz López, has held talks with Antigua and Barbuda’s Chief of Immigration, Katrina Yearwood, to address concerns about Dominican citizens living on the island.
Senior immigration officials, including Eulandis Pilgrim, John Mendes and Hubert Smith, joined the meeting, which centred on strengthening cooperation and ensuring fair treatment of Dominican nationals, particularly those without regular status.
Díaz, accompanied by Vice Consul Huáscar Ogando and other members of the Dominican diplomatic corps, described the talks as an important step in safeguarding his country’s citizens while deepening ties with Antiguan authorities.
“This meeting sets an important precedent and motivates us to work together for the well-being of our nationals,” he said, adding that both sides had agreed on a joint agenda to tackle immigration challenges.
The consul welcomed what he called the “full cooperation” of Antiguan officials and stressed that both governments remain committed to building stronger relations based on mutual respect.
Officials say the initiative reflects the Dominican Republic’s wider efforts to protect its citizens abroad while fostering closer partnerships with host nations.
