The Dominican community in Antigua and Barbuda has rejected claims that immigrants from the Dominican Republic voted in the country’s most recent general election.

In a statement issued in response to reports published in the local press on 3 December 2025, the group said its members “have not elected anyone to represent our community before the Government of Antigua and Barbuda”.
The community described itself as the largest immigrant group in the country, noting that while it has established roots across the islands, it has never had formal representation before the government.
Leaders said they now believe it is both “fair and necessary” to seek structured representation, arguing that this would improve communication and engagement with the authorities.

The proposal includes the creation of a commission to organise the selection of a representative or committee through a transparent and regulated process. This would involve setting out eligibility criteria, selection methods and rules governing the exercise and limits of the representatives’ functions.
According to the statement, the aim is to ensure that any representative body acts strictly within agreed parameters and does not claim authority beyond what is formally recognised by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Government of the Dominican Republic.
The community also emphasised that any representation would be consultative in nature and would not imply political power or official diplomatic status.
Members of the Dominican community interested in participating in the initiative have been invited to contact the organisers as discussions move forward.

Hmm. The locals are gonna throw a fit. My suggestion to them is to coordinate with Jamaica, Guyana and the DR, and leave The uncle Sam aline
The Domican people do not need any representation in Antigua, you move to our country because it is a nice place to live, integrate not segregate.
Why should the government bear the burden of setting any specific ethnic group or people from different jurisdictions?
Spend your money like any other organization be the NGO, church, prostitution, weed shop, rum bar, pay all applicable taxes, for any such association or organization and give back to the Nation which decades ago, gave Dominicanos the opportunity to live and thrive in Antigua.
What next do they want a seat added to parliament just to represent them?
Isn’t City West under the top dawg GB theirs?
Why not put up your own candidates, as you form your very own political party?
Shit, it’s now fashionable to start your own political party, so just form a Party and put up your Candidates. Tell Gaston Browne, PM, adios! Adios!

I agree representation my ass
Wow, Dominican Republic migrants in Antigua and Barbuda want their own government in Antigua and Barbuda. This is the result of the incompetence of the political parties in Antigua and Barbuda. This is what they have done to this country.
I love Dominican Republic folks but this is outright inappropriate calling to set up their own government in a way in a country they recently flooded.
If Antiguans and Barbudans don’t see the incompetence of political parties like the current ABLP for causing this to happen, then I just give up on the locals. I am starting to believe the blame should not be on ABLP but on local voters for knowing how ABLP and still voting for them. It is no longer ABLP fault. Voters must now take responsibility.
In about 5 to 10 years, I guarantee you there will be no Antigua and Barbuda culture, folkways and norms in Antigua and Barbuda. But perhaps president Trump action to suspend visas (immigrant and nonimmigrant) may delay this prediction of mine by a few years.
Integration not segregation
Ah wha de rass ya tall me ah read dis marning Dem people bareface no hell, but with the Dawg no rule it out he no lub Antiguans. He sorry he barn ya
Will the government deport these criminals already!
Lets get this thing right. This people are spanish Dominicans. Here I am thinking its us from the Nature Isle. Please differentiate us from them. Tonneh
Y’all better listen when I talk, you think it’s a joke.
I’m not saying that people shouldn’t have a voice, but put it in context here. Why would DR people defending their position in Antigua this forcefully? just think?
Why would GB jump to their defense so quickly in the Chatel case, saying that the death penalty is not warranted, why? Not that he doesn’t have a right to talk, but why does it come from him so quickly?
If you have two kids, why would one be pompous enough to jump in your face, while the other obey your direction?
Just think people, think.
@Ras. You hit in on the head everytime.
These people should just sit back and eat food and live just like everyone else that pay taxes, but no, they are demanding more, why, and why so powerfully?
Think people, think!
Oh, and one more thing.
Why would GB jump to their defense so quickly, but in the same quickness, try to destroy our National Hero Viv for all to hear, why?
Think people, think?
That’s all I have to say.
@Islanman26…it’s an easy read, as in a Checjers/Draft, WARRI or Chess Game. Chess, I’m basically a novice on the board, I know the basics but WARRI and DRAFT/Checkers I’m a gonna hold my own. Domino, or don’t get no better than running SHIT through the table; and, if I get Kambouyee – El Diablo from Point, as a partner, Gaston can show up with Antigua’s best at Bakers Corner in Point and he too will get some S.H.I.T. – Some High Intensity Training poured over him, like holy Florida water!
Granny would send me to collect the herbs, from the wild.
Yes sir, I saw this coming from as recently, as the 1980’s when the DR folks started flocking to Antigua under the Family lineage cover (the report was Antigua men had went to the DR to work on the Sugar & Cotton Plantations at some period, sexed a lot of Spanish women and made a whole City in the DR, Maria_Toneville De la Antigua, so they were Antiguans by that
decree, so they came and brought toot, mun and buggeye!
The Nation could use an Immigration reset, even with this Deportee/Refugee debacle. This should make the immigration and other law enforcement agencies want to he more proactive, in managing the Nation’s Borders. It can’t be that hard.
Gaston knows what time it is. The majority of the indigenous better do.
In spite of Asot Michael baggage which he had as a politician, the TREND which he started, as in winning a seat Independently outside of Barbuda in the Parliament, for a fleeting moment, see three or four INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES in the Parliament with a slim margin by the Ruling Arm would bow to the INDEPENDENT CAUCUS.
These are serious times which demands and dictates, the those charged with managing our Nation have but so much wriggle room on the side line, before they run the play out of bounds.
Nuff respect, ebrie time
