The United Workers Party (UWP) and the Electoral Reform Coalition (ERC) have officially launched a Dominica Economic Revival Summit 2024, under the theme ‘Planning for Sustainable Growth and Development.’
Scheduled to take place on June 4-6, 2024, at the Jungle Bay Resort and Spa, the summit will bring together key stakeholders, government officials, business leaders, and experts in various fields to engage in constructive dialogue and collaboration.
Addressing the event’s press launch on Thursday, April 25, UWP’s Political Leader, Dr. Thomson Fontaine said he expects participation from all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation.
“Dominica’s economy and by extension its people have suffered due to a lack of proper economic planning over the years. Failure to plan for sustainable development while focusing exclusively on revenues from the CBI program have resulted in an overall lack of development, failure to create jobs and the general poor state of the economy that we see in Dominica.” Dr. Fontaine stated.
The two-day sessions will focus on agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and construction, knowledge and economy and renewable energy.
“We believe that this is the way forward for Dominica; all of us working together; all of us planning together and all of us succeeding together,” Dr. Fontaine added.
Member of the ERC, Severin Mckenzie said the summit would help develop strategies to advance the country’s economic prosperity.
“The main objective of the summit is to begin the process of a masterplan which will serve as a roadmap for Dominica’s future development. As we approach the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, there is no doubt that Dominicans are disappointed with the present state of the
economy. For those who are curious about what the link between electoral reform and an economic revival summit is; we in the ERC are very conscious of the fact that beyond electoral reform comes economic reform,” Mckenzie noted.
The Dominica Economic Revival Summit starts with an opening ceremony and awards dinner on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Jungle Bay Resort & Spa. Tickets are available for EC$250. The sessions follow on Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 6. This is open and free to stakeholders, who are committed to driving positive change and economic progress in Dominica. Registration information and a detailed agenda will be available in the coming weeks.

Absentee UWP political leader Thompson Fontaine, you live and work in South Sudan as the senior economic advisor to the South Sudan government for over seven years yet South Sudan still remains the most impoverished and corrupt country in Africa. You have been predicting gloom and doom for Dominica as part of your political campaign. You failed to understand that Dominica is the only country in the Caribbean to have experience major disasters over the past decades that resulted in total destruction of its economy and extensive damage to its infrastructure and let us not forget covid that brought the region to a standstill. Where were you when the recovery struggles were taking place to repair houses, rebuild a broken economy, rebuild the infrastructure and fight the dreaded covid disease. You are just a fake trying to reap where you did not plant.
