Disabled movement calls on PM to keep his word

President of the Antigua & Barbuda Association of Persons with Disabilities Bernard Warner, has made an impassioned plea to the county’s leader to deliver on a promise to members.

Warner said Prime Minister Gaston Browne promised during VC Bird celebrations last year, to make grants available to the less fortunate, including the disabled, for home repairs.

Warner said sending follow up letters to the relevant ministries and departments, there has been no response from the government.

“We need help,” Warner, an outspoken advocate for the disabled said.

According to him, a list of disabled people urgently in need of housing assistance has been submitted to the Ministry of Social Transformation.

“We have not received any correspondence acknowledging that letter.”

Warner wants residents to join in protesting the decision of the government to ignore his membership.

“We need to protest,” Warner who is also a civil servant said.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced the EC $ 10, 000 grant by way of material from the housing authority.

He said many in addition to building new homes, the government will also providing funding for homes repairs given the dilapidated conditions of many houses.
