President of the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Persons Living with Disabilities Bernard Warner is to be nominated for a national award in recognition of decades of advocacy on behalf of persons with disabilities.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced the planned nomination during a town hall meeting last week.
Warner, who lives with a disability himself, has spent more than 30 years championing inclusion, dignity and economic empowerment for persons with disabilities. His work has included securing more than EC$100,000 through the GEF Small Grants Programme to support self-sufficiency initiatives and improve livelihoods.
He has also played a hands-on role in supporting members of the association, including coordinating daily transportation to ensure access to services, programmes and employment opportunities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Warner led efforts to distribute food and essential supplies and advocated for improved housing conditions for persons with disabilities, highlighting their needs during the national emergency.
The nomination recognises Warner’s long-standing service, practical support and sustained commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Antigua and Barbuda.

Comrade Warner getting a national award from his party? Why don’t they also give him a knighthood? After all knighthood giving out in antigua like brownie bread.
Well deserving! It is sad though that Bernard himself had to initiate it causing the PM to respectfully succumb to his plea.
Interestingly the host of the meeting tried to shut him down, but it was evident that Bernard is definitely a very resolute person
Besides the PM, there is no head of any organization in this twin island state work as hard & advocate feverishly for his members.
If Flag man can get a national award for carrying a flag, why not Bernard who has gone beyond the call of duty to better people’s lives?
Congrats Bernard!
Congratulations Warner
Warner has been fighting for these people and he should be recognized
What has Mary John not done as to why they don’t see it fit to recognize her with an award?
Mary has been advocate for mental health, young female sex trafficking and other issues.
I wasn’t even sure that the PM was joking when he made the statement, But if he is serious I am indeed happy for Warner
