PM Browne Sets 60-Day Deadline for Public Works Director to Address Road Repairs–CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATS APP GROUP
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has issued a firm ultimatum to the Director of Public Works, demanding significant progress on road maintenance within 60 days.
The directive, he emphasized, comes after ongoing issues with potholes and road deterioration, which he said have been neglected for several months despite available resources.
PM Browne criticized the responsiveness of the Public Works Department, citing unacceptable delays in patching up potholes, which he said persist due to inefficiencies and mismanagement.
He pointed to an instance where only one of the department’s three patching machines was in use, which he deemed unacceptable.
The Prime Minister relayed how he urged the Director to distribute both experienced and inexperienced workers across the machines to accelerate the process.
Despite Cabinet’s approval for the hiring of 40 additional workers and funds allocated months ago for new road saws, PM Browne noted that bureaucratic delays and a lack of follow-through hindered improvements.
He also voiced frustration over what he described as a misplaced focus on “gifts” from contractors rather than on delivering essential public services.
According to Browne, Public Works management has failed to prioritize routine tasks like identifying and patching potholes, which he underscored as essential for public satisfaction and safety.
“If within the next 60 days going into January, we don’t see a significant improvement in those potholes, the Director will be removed,” PM Browne stated, adding that he rarely makes threats about job security but feels it necessary in this case to hold the Director personally accountable.
Browne reiterated that funding is not a limitation, with the government prepared to provide half a million dollars weekly to ensure road repairs are conducted efficiently.
He concluded by emphasizing the need for Public Works to take immediate action, highlighting that if the department’s productivity doesn’t increase, “you’re going home.”

The alleged arrogance, ignorance and incompetence of this character has been openly directed and discussed by knowledgeable Antiguans for some time now and, given what we see for ourselves, one can come to no other conclusion. Give competent locals every opportunity to be in charge, but if and when they fall short, be prepared to import “the experts” just as the populace is now demanding the employment of Scotland Yard, FBI etc…. Money is scarce. Time to look elsewhere for sound road improvement.
Crump as a public servant you should come forward and tell the public exactly what affects your performance. And if you find that you’re not capable of that job should resign, don’t allowed the PM to fire you in such embarrassing manner. I can sure bet it’s a situation where crump is been used as a scape goat while he was given a bask to carry water.
I think it is unfortunate for Mr Crump to be the only one held responsible for the poor performance of Public Works. The Permanent Secretary Mr Cenac is equally responsible and also the road engineers and supervisors and even the Minister of Works!
To blame one person when soo many have failed is the wrong approach.
Blame everyone and then fix the problems!
One big dutty f*****g trupz. I am totally sick of gaston.
Give me a break but I guess a fall-guy must be found.
I am not sorry for Crump either. You must reap what you sow.
More will be disclosed in the future.
The Ministries should examine the Performance Management Process and implement processes and procedures to successfully manage its personnel throughout. Non performance or underperformance should be handled in a manner that all parties know the goals and are fully aware of the consequence of non-performance or underperformance. We cannot afford incompetence and corrupt practices for our own sakes.
Does this mean that the youngest female cabinet member, who is responsible for housing; works: land, and urban renewal will be put on 60 days NOTICE as well?

I really think that to publicly shame and disgrace Mr Crump in that manner was most demeaning. Literally threatening him on a public forum. If he is fired he would have a strong case against the government and of course tax payers would have to foot the bill. I bet Alden Crump is already “lawyering up.” Some charges levied against Mr Crump not only disparage him but were downright dangerous and slanderous.
Hope that ultimatum is for the minister as well
