Government Publishes Full Brief on Alfa Nero Lawsuit Response

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has published, in full, a detailed Public Communications Brief outlining its position on the ongoing legal dispute involving the Alfa Nero superyacht. The document, now available online, sets out the Government’s case that the seizure and sale of the vessel were conducted lawfully, with full international cooperation and transparency.

It responds directly to claims made in a U.S. court filing by Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov, the daughter of a sanctioned Russian oligarch, describing her legal action as baseless, politically motivated, and an attempt to intimidate Antiguan officials. The brief also addresses the engagement of U.S. legal counsel, the use of proceeds from the yacht’s sale, and the broader economic implications of the allegations being echoed by members of the political opposition.

The full document is now accessible to the public as part of the Government’s commitment to transparency:

  1. I’m not saying that the government is lying here ok. I’m choosing to be open minded. But if two persons are in court, one cannot come and present their own “evidence” and say that these are the complete facts. That’s one person’s words against the other person’s words. The truth is, the yatch should have never been touched in the first place by the government. It wasn’t theirs. They saw that the yatch had many legal implications in the future, we all did. Yet, they insisted on selling something that was never theirs all because it’s in their waters. Now they might find themselves paying more money in legal fees on this court battle than what the boat cost. And all of this wasted money on this legal fight is tax payers money. Who knows for how long this might be dragged out for? Mistakes and misjudgements are made all the time, we are humans, but sadly, some person’s would never be mature enough to admit that they made a mistake.

  2. But why only now, Antiguans and Barbudans were asking for transparency for some time, now that bigger fish wants to know you decide to comply, don’t you have any respect for the people who put you in office, it really says a lot about you, the way you ride roughshod over your cabinet members the same way you want to treat the entire population that’s the problem I have with you, you seem to think you are above the law

  3. Darwin Telemaque soon going to disappear as he always does when the heat tun up. He convinced the PM to do this nonsense along with Falconi. He even boast about it one evening at a party he held on board the Alfa Nero with his Spanish girls and his friends. This time Trump going to look for him because he carry a US Passport and dem don’t like thieving on this scale.

  4. This is a clear case where a few people saw an opportunity to get rich quick (typical of most of our elected officials) . If you see the list of who all were paid ( made available by the government) ; it’s the same group of people who always tend to find themselves caught up in such bobol,,, they walk around like Antiguas most st successful businessmen but none are prepared to work hard for their money, they look for every corrupt scheme to get involved in…. Wasn’t one them a magistrate not too long ago? Wonder if he ruled on any of the preliminary judgments?

  5. You are too late for us but that isn’t what the investigators are asking for. Comply with their request and let us move on; we believed when you said that you had nothing to hide so just do the right thing because you have the support of the entire state.

  6. After the fact????
    Who are you fooling?
A detailed spending was published within totalled more than the price for which the yacht was sold.
ALP never thought the ghost of Alfa Nero would come back. It has.
So try as hard as you may the secrecy has and will waver in the minds of the citizenry.
The fight to find and publish documents will prove dishonesty and possible corruption
Wet your hand and wait for the balloon to burst.

  7. Will the government learn from this fiasco and come clean with the nations and explain: 1 why did the West Africans came into Antigua in the early hours of morning outside normal working hours of the airport?

    2. Tell the nation of their whereabouts.

3 Get Olabanjo to give the names of his two friends that he used government vehicle to meet, and to tell the nation of their whereabouts.

Hopefully the parties who were involved with this scandal would not wait for the US Homeland Security Services to unraveled individuals involvement with human trafficking before the culprits decides to be transparent.

  8. This is another indication that The People in Power think you-all are a bunch of idiots who are easily fooled.

This is insulting to me as an individual Antiguan. This has all the hallmarks of a guilty party.
While it’s easy to say, The People in Power do not know the meaning of transparency. The fact is, they are of the belief that you the public can be easily fooled.
They fool you time and time again; and you The Antiguan voters reward them.

Rather than transparency; this reads like a bunch of desperados trying to run for cover, when the guns are blazing in there direction.

This is a gift to the fumbling and bumbling UPP opposition who is likely to squander the opportunities presented here.
Rather than UPP educate the public by flooding the media with analysis of the implications and likely outcome; they wait for the public to speculate and rumour monger with the expectation that will be if them.
What a bunch of frustrating and disappointing group people. .

The People in Power are already struggling with their insulting explanations.
It will get worse they will point fingers at each turn only to be further exposed.

They are confident irrigardless of the outcome, the public will continue to reward them.
These missives they issued will serve as evidence for Boise Shieller LLP.

Asterphan just want to run up billable hours. Cutie Benjamin finds himself in between a rock and a hard place.
Max should know better, for he was trained as a lawyer in the US.

While it’s insulting it’s also entertaining

  9. Oh fucking please Darwin Telemaque can’t tell Gaston to do anything. Why u blaming Darwin. U just fucking perthetic in you all thinking. No body can tell Gaston what to do. Hypocrites you all be. Put the damn blame where it belongs.

  10. We need to learn our lesson from this. That transparency should not be only when your backs are against the wall but every time. Especially that we do not have a viable opposition.

  11. What facts. Another set of lies to the public. The facts will come out starting with the deposition.
This will be used in the trial as an example of the lies and misinformation.

  12. Listen….all the person who purchases the boat has to do is send us the proof of how much money was sent and the way it was sent. It they sent X and Y appeared then we have a problem. If they sent X and X appeared then…..

As far as I am concerned, since the boat was ABANDONED here and it’s staff left to fend for themselves, I would’ve just taken the damn thing out to international waters and leave it ra$$ right there. Whoever wanted it could’ve taken it. Let the dock own who allowed to boat to come into port look and see who was the registered owner of the boat and sue them in court to recoup the losses that they incurred.

  13. The Prime Minister and ABLP Cabinet have no respect for the intelligence of the public in general. That’s what this document illustrates. For them and their advisors to think that this will be acceptable to explain the situation; clearly shows the disdain and the control they have over the Country
They also know that those individuals in the Antigua and Barbuda community who knows better, are too scared to open their mouths and explain why is this document an insult.
Any such individual will end up in the cross hairs of a demagogic media machinery controlled by the ABLP and Gaston Browne.
In as much as they headlines Full Disclosure and Transparency. They have kept secret the name the law firm selected to represent the individuals who are named in the Deposition.
Antiguans are paying wrongfully to defend these individuals.
That in and of itself is a travesty, adding insult to injury.
The Transparency document is an insult

  14. Astaphan will take care of dem jokers in the States, he ain’t easy just ask dem Privvy Council Boys bout he

  15. Gaston just had to implicate the Opposition in this, poor UPP they have enough problem of their own making, can’t even tell which direction the wind is blowing. Hope they can get their act together or I would not be voting
