Reports say the corporal, who resides in Villa, went to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and complained that the victim had struck him on the left hand with a stone and attacked him with a cutlass.

As a result of this assault, the officer said, he was forced to discharge his service revolver, which resulted in the man being shot in his left arm.

This incident reportedly occurred on Long Street, at about 8:40 p.m., on Saturday, March 9.

Meanwhile, reports say that while the Police were seeking answers from the victim he refused to give his name.

According to reports, at about 8 p.m. that same night, the corporal was at Kings Casino when Carson “Upper Cut” Matthew reported that an unidentified man had attacked him with a cutlass.

As a result, the officer approached the suspect, who allegedly threw a glass bottle, striking two female bystanders.

The man then ran from the scene with the officer giving chase.

During this time, the police officer observed that the suspect was brandishing a cutlass, exposing it to bystanders on lower High Street.

However, the corporal continued to give chase; and upon reaching Long Street, in the vicinity of DHL, the suspect turned around; ran towards the officer; and threw a stone at the corporal’s head.

It struck him on his left forearm, instead, causing a bruise.

Further reports are that the suspect then immediately raised a two- foot-long cutlass in an attempt to strike the lawman, who pulled his service revolver and discharged a single round, striking the suspect in his left bicep.

The suspect subsequently fell to the ground and the officer was able to detain him.

The man, known only as “John Doe,” along with the cutlass and stone, were taken to the CID and turned over to another police corporal.

At that point, the man was transported to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Service and was seen by a doctor who reported that his injuries were not life threatening.

The officer also had to be seen by a doctor.

  1. Last time I check they train you guys to disarm individuals with knives and Cutlass but as usual you guys just want a reason to shoot ur guns… Where the so call body cams and tasers at

    • Anonymous you watch too much tv, why don’t you explain these tactics, you sound like an idiot you try disarm someone with a knife I guarantee you’ll die. Knife and Cutlass fights are no joke no man can come out unscathed. It just take one dig or chop and you are a dead man.

    • U cannot be serious about teach them to disarm SMH the police did the right thing shoot him in his arm if it was another country he would of been shot dead u ppl are so bias

    • What you should do is follow the officers around and when these situations arises you step in and use this maneuvers to disarm then the police detain. You never know you might get knighted for bravery.

  2. Good target practice.
Best watch out when his wound gets healed, man likea dat will kill for less than a lill beef.
These people need to be taken off the streets.

  3. It’s a gang thing. “Upper Cut” you helped to build Blood Red Shut now your own shirt is been soaked in blood. It’s a bad man thing.

  4. I would say the Officer was very compassionate, or in need of more target practice at the shooting range: as the standard practice is to shoot at the body mass spectrum of the perpetrator when the situation demand the use of lethal weapon; or even the less lethal taser discharge, upon command to drop whatever offensive weapon in their possession. I don’t know where the bleeding-heart liberals get the notion that a peace officer threatened with a weapon should try to physically disarm any person who exhibit a mode and, intent to inflect bodily harm; and mayhem of the public and law enforcement peace officers. Law & Order is the mantra a civilized society must strive to relish for prosperity.

    • Good job officer. The use of force police say that when a police officer life is threatened and the need arise where he should use his firearm, the use of force police say you must shoot CENTER MASS. That is chest area. He lucky he got shot in the arm. And for some people who would think that police must fire warning shot, it is an offence to fire warning shot in Antigua and Barbuda. A warning shot is an un aimed unidentify shot if fired. You might take down someone unaware. Mabe on a tree or roof top

  5. Good job officer… I do however find that we are too far behind with Police equipment and tech….The government needs to spend some dollars on more modern Police gear…They need tazer guns and body cams especially…The man was lucky he got shot in the right area to survive his injury and go to court…I believe the officer had no intention or time to take proper aim at that moment..It was just quick reflex reaction, the officer was safe and the accused was arrested WELL DONE..
