Depression 14 becomes Tropical Storm Margot

Loop News – Tropical Storm Margot has been named in the Atlantic. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

The US National Hurricane Center (US NHC) says at 8 pm CVT (2100 UTC), the centre of Tropical Storm Margot was located about 290 miles WNW of the Cabo Verde islands.

Margot is moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph (28 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue over the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.

Gradual strengthening is expected during the next few days, and Margot is forecast to become a hurricane over the weekend.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the centre.

Tropical Storm Margot is the 14th named storm of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
