Delon Charlery has been sentenced to 20 years and two months in prison for the 2021 murder of his girlfriend, Customs Enforcement Officer Zorina Benjamin.
Charlery, who pleaded guilty to murder in May 2025, shot Benjamin inside her Golden Grove home on November 22, 2021. The 40-year-old officer’s body was found on her bed with gunshot wounds to both temples.
CCTV footage from the home captured the couple arguing around 3 a.m., with Charlery heard saying he had “already tek um off safety” before a gunshot followed. He was later seen leaving the property in Benjamin’s vehicle after tampering with the locks.
Charlery initially claimed the shooting was accidental, but forensic evidence and video footage disproved his account. The post-mortem confirmed Benjamin died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Justice took into account his guilty plea and lack of prior convictions, but cited aggravating factors, including that the murder took place in the victim’s home and his attempt to conceal the crime. With time on remand deducted, Charlery will serve 20 years and two months.

@truth teller … he pleaded guilty after his lawyer told him too..Mr Robinson told him he reviewed the camera footage and heard an argument followed by a gun shot… She got one shot in each of her temple the newspaper said .sounds excessive…. He will be out in the next 15 years … that’s bad justice… unless there is more to the story that I don’t know about ….
In this instance, a life has been taken because of the perpetrator’s stupid temperament and the sentence is only 20 years?
Another perpetrator took an innocent life & got 3 yrs in jail because of his age ? Yet a mentally ill young woman who committed a similar act of taking a life received 26 years ? Where is the balance?
I am really baffled! Our justice system in 268 apears to be like a joke. Perhaps it needs some introspection.
The perpetrators who received the 20 & 3 year sentences will shortly be back on the streets walking while the victim’s friends and families will be in deep pain & agony for the rest of their lives. Sad & extremely frightening!!
He slaughtered one of our queen and just spend a short holiday at the hotel then walk free? In the USA countries he be taken out upon release
