Delays in St. John’s Police Station Renovation Due to Contractor Reassignment

The St. John’s Police Station renovation faces delays due to contractors being reassigned to another site, according to Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney.

He emphasized the station’s importance, serving many areas, and assured it would reopen by year’s end.

The $2 million renovation, approved last September, addresses mold, termites, and structural issues.

Operations have temporarily moved to the former Antigua Port Authority compound on Bay Street.

For Carnival, Commissioner Rodney advised parking in well-lit areas, carpooling, securing homes, and business owners reviewing their security with police guidance.

  1. I will say something that most police officers are unable or afraid to say openly. All the police stations throughout Antigua and Barbuda are in a deplorable condition and unfit for habitation and occupancy. The level of output that we get from the officers is equivalent to the level of respect that the authorities give to the police officers. You cannot expect to have the officers operating from “pig sty like quarters” and expect them to give of their best in fighting crime. This reassignment of contractors from the St. John’s Police precinct to another location shows the level of respect and importance that is given to the police men and women. Come on man! Prioritize the renovation of the police stations- make the officers comfortable and you will see the quality of work you get from them. The Commissioner of Police must be more forceful in putting pressure on the Minister of National Security in order to improve the working conditions of the Police. Stop being so soft!

  2. Right. What happened to ABICE? You got the funds donated by Harrison to build it. What about the cemetery? Boys Training School? The High Court on High Street? Two weeks ago Steadroy Benjamin said it would be completed that Friday.
And the Labourites call UPP a joke.

  3. Of course there’s a delay! What else is new with these clowns?
The 2 million dollar cemetery sits idle. The court on High Street opened yet? We were told by Shamu Benjamin it would be handed over two weeks ago. Boys Training School is on its, what, third or fourth delay? The ABICE building sits idle, incomplete, delayed because the money ran out.
And the Labourites call UPP a joke.
Just amazing how money go missing with this government.

  4. Delays, while [some] are unavoidable for Construction Projects always lead to #cost_overun. Hence, the reason why SOV – Schedule of Values is essential to minimise these cost overruns.

Here’s an idea, a thought; how about, designing and building a Community Complex which houses the police, the Community Associations/Groups(non-political) and Medical/Treatment facilities. One complex! Is this too much to conceive?

Now, please it MUST be designed as a #green_space!
