Defence attorney Andrew O’Kola has called on Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Clement Joseph to issue a public apology following a verbal confrontation at the High Court last Friday.

O’Kola said he was “publicly and unjustifiably verbally attacked” by the DPP in front of court staff, media personnel and members of the public.

The altercation reportedly occurred as O’Kola passed through the hallway where Joseph was seated. According to O’Kola, the DPP criticised a letter he had written, telling him he was “doing too much” before launching into a loud tirade.

“It is deeply regrettable that this incident happened in a public space,” O’Kola said in a statement, adding that such behaviour undermines public confidence in the justice system.

He stressed his duty to “fearlessly represent” clients while upholding professional integrity and called for mutual respect within the administration of justice.

O’Kola said the DPP’s conduct warranted a public apology but reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and independent legal advocacy.

  1. How is this news when people are going hungry right here in Antigua, also the cost of living has gone through the roof, and corrupt practices have recently been highlighted in regards to the vehicle acquisitions procurement?

Holey money, talk about “sticks and stones will break your bones, and ‘NAMES’ will never hurt you”

Again, how is this headline news???

    Mercy Mr Percy …

  2. An Antiguan cannot hold the office of the DPP based on biases however I fully agree with your sentiments. Antiguans are overlooked for a lot of positions of high ranking and given to parties who have power issues and think that they can come here and speak to us at they see fit like we are scums. The new DPP is despicable in both behavior and character like he is above everyone and every law placed on our land.

  3. Antiguans are overlooked when they NOT QUALIFIED. Stop making this about nationality. Ain’t Antiguans go overseas and hold high positions too?
