Daughter of Russian oligarch is challenging Antigua’s right to auction off her father’s seized superyacht Alfa Nero

Daily Mail:

The daughter of the Russian oligarch who owned the superyacht Alfa Nero is challenging Antiguan government’s right to sell the vessel – which it did to former Google CEO Eric Schmidt in an auction of the blinged out vessel.

Schmidt, 68, won the $67.6 million prize after it was  abandoned in Antigua by fertilizer mogul Andrey Guryev last year – seized following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Now the Antiguan government must resolve this situation before it can move forward with any buyer, including billionaire Schmidt, according to a source close to the situation.

The massive ship, which has been languishing in the Caribbean island since the start of the conflict, is among the most luxurious in the world, and boasts the first-ever swimming pool that can turn into a helipad.

It was also notably built by Oceanco, the same company that constructed the $500 million superyacht recently enjoyed by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez

Built in 2007, the 267 foot vessel was initially listed for sale in 2009 for a titanic price tag of $190 million.

The ship can host 12 guests and up to 26 crewmembers, and is fitted with amenities appropriate for a billionaire.

The master bedroom fills the entire front of the top deck, offering panoramic ocean views while the inside is decked out in lavish designs.

Inside the yacht, each room is said to have a separate, coordinated design. A saloon bar on the upper deck is palatial, while the main deck saloon boasts a more modern look.

A private gym with 180 degree views is also on the top floor, and a lower deck also has a health and beauty spa.

The Alfa Nero was described by its manufacturer Oceanco as ‘one of the world’s most iconic and highly awarded yachts’.

Schmidt bought the boat after it was left abandoned in Antigua by Guryev last year following sanctions by the US Treasury.

US officials claimed Guryev, who owns one of the largest fertilizer producer companies in the world and has close ties to Vladimir Putin, bought the yacht in 2014.

The auction was hosted by the government of Antigua and Barbuda, which said on June 16 that Schmidt won in a ‘fully transparent process’.

Guryev has an estimated net worth of around $4.8 billion, and Schmidt’s fortune is valued at over $20 billion.

The yacht was notably made by the same company that built another vessel to capture headlines in recent times.

Former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos splashed the cash on a new $500 million megayacht this year called Koru.

It is one of the tallest and longest ships in the world, at 417 feet in length.

Bezos and his glamorous fiancé Lauren Sanchez were recently spotted sharing a kiss on the expansive deck.

The Koru is so massive it is also joined on its voyages by a second, $75 million support yacht called the ‘Aboena’.

It floats nearby to help the billionaire live a life of luxury, hosting his selection of supercars, motorbikes, smaller boats, jet skis and helicopters.

  3. Is David Dorsett of Watts and Associates still representing the Russian woman (according to A.B.S. news)?

If so, I guess he will get all of the money and his partners will get none?

  4. If she want it mek sure pay back every cent that was spent on it plus incentives for it.
It’s that simple, pay up and take it or whoever bid on it take it

  5. Fact is, only the rightful owner can lay claims to what belongs them. While I’m alive, none of my children have the right to claim any property.

She has never said her father gave her the rights to claim anything. If that was possible, she could just claim all his properties. She has to show ownership.

  6. My problem with this is that people are just covetously badminded. Want people things. Ammerrikka wrongfully invaded Iraq. Give me the list of all the ammerrikkans properties that were coveted? The bushes and Blair’s are still flying free. And Pooh little us get caught up in this. As long as we know that some superpowers have long counteractive poisonous tentacles.

  7. Have we now shifted from an economic powerhouse to legal ambush? Government by court case, led by a bush lawyer! What’s up with the CIP? Any new investors?

  8. This matter is getting messy like a pig’s pen. We as a Country got millions of dollars from the former Ukraine thieving Prime Minister,Lazarenko. He was involved in laundering monies all over the place. Some ended up in Antigua and ceased there by this Administration. We do not know. What those monies were used for in the Nation. Now they huff that Yacht and a mess is developing.Just a word of caution to all in positions of leadership. The Russian Mafia is worse than the their Italian counterparts. They would hurt all and sundry,no limitations.

  9. IT IS UNLAWFUL TO TAKE THE PROPERTY OF ANOTHER WITH THE INTENTION TO PERMANENTLY DEPRIVE THAT PERSON OF THEIR PROPERTY.
    MENS REA
    ACTUS REUS
    SOMEONE WILL GO TO

THE USA THAT OWES ANTIGUA 100S OF MILLIONS, THE GOVERNMENT IS YET TO SEIZE THE ASSETS OF THE AMERICANS, AND AUCTION THEM TO LEVRIAGE THEIR INDEBTEDNESS.

BUT THE RUSSIAN WHO WAS COTRIBUTING TO THE MAIN INDUSTRY, THE GOVERNMENT COMMITTED AN UNLAWFUL ACT AGAINST THE VESSEL OWNER.

IT IS WRONG, ANTIGUANS DO NOT SUPPORT THE UNLAWFUL ACT OF THE PM AND CO.

    • 100% correct. In effect, this is theft and morally bankrupt. Property rights matter. As long as the family pays for the monies spent on the upkeep of the boatwhile stationed in Antigua, including the reimbursement of all expenses, then let them have their boat back.

  10. The thieving greedy politicians think that Russia is Barbuda. Let them go ahead and see how a fly stands up to a bear. A beautiful yacht, a bankrupt country. Why not come up with “conniving” to take it. If I were a sane politician, I would tell the people to come for their yacht and pay any amounts owed as I believe this will not end well.

    • Gaston: Tek the wah and pay the wah? YA MAD?!? When me cyan SELL UM!!! $$$$

  11. Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov: I want my daddy’s boat!!!! It’s not yours to sell…What ever fees and maintenance expenses you’re blabbing about is pennies and you’ll get that but not my daddy’s BEEPING boat!!!!

  12. If the fly and the bear are friends.. @illusion…this could be the stage and we the actors…
