Darren Matthew-Ward leaves the WTP Platform

Hello Antigua & Barbuda.

It has been said that media practitioners should try their best not to be the subject of news. I will confess that this week I have failed in that regard and based on what I am about to say, it’s safe to say that I am pleased that the week is near its end.

For quite some time on and off The Hon. E.P. Chet Greene reached out to me expressing a desire for me to work with him at WTP. Even before the advent of Twin Island Media his invitations remained consistent.

Fast forward to mid-2025, those efforts bore fruit, after prolonged negotiations. The management, staff and core followers who were engaging, welcomed me with open arms and were very supportive. They made the transition very comfortable and to all of them, I express gratitude.

However, despite our best intentions, desires and efforts, my presence at WTP appeared to be an issue for some in his party. Quite frankly, it made the life of Mr. Greene – who serves as Chairman of the ABLP, increasingly difficult. As Chairman of the ruling party, it is his responsibility to ensure that there is harmony within its ranks and as such it was mutually agreed to discontinue The Sunday Forum and Antigua & Barbuda Tonight. Therefore, my last broadcast on the WTP platform was Thursday, November 6th, 2025.

All of the programs that I produced and hosted were done with the best intentions to uphold the principles of fairness and balance, to inform and enlighten. There was no such thing as perfection, but then again – that is for another realm.

I would like to thank Mr. Greene for giving me the opportunity to continue to hone my talents and to add to the national conversation with my personal style and manner. It was a learning experience.

For those who are saddened, please don’t be. A lady once said to me, one door closes – another opens and life continues with hope and promise. Be assured of that.

Big up to Ryan – The GM, my producer Daveile, CJ, DJ Virus, Kereo, Sly J, Governor Slim, Dave, Mambo and every other colleague who treated me at times like I was some sort of celebrity (no exaggeration). I am very grateful to all of you.

Thanks to the Hon. E.P. Chet Greene for believing in me, even though he knew that I was not going to be a die-hard “choir member” for the cause of his party. I appreciate his desire to be open-minded and desirous of raising the standard of the national discourse which served as the basis for my presence on WTP. It took courage, and we know that fortune eventually and always favors the brave.

As always, the conversation will continue and I look forward to doing it with all of you.

  1. I wonder if… I wonder why… but then again, it was seemingly aimed at discrediting the leader in many respects. When the chairman of the opposition party would be on an interview, she was allowed to state her case without being challenged when you had the proof her earlier intimations. When you invite guests who don’t support the administration, but eventually share that you asked members of the current administration but they were unavailable, why then why wasn’t the show rescheduled until a balanced team could have been established?
    So many questions, and more questions…
    Let’s watch this space.

  4. I know that your intentions were pure and honourable and non partisan given the consumate professional that you have always been. However, the recent unfortunate outburst by the country’s leader and his directive to the Management of WTP, it was pelucid that your days at WTP were numbered. You have nothing to be ashamed of. You are the best and will continue to be the best at what you do and you were unfortunately outdone by the political realities of life in our country today. But your journey continues.     Antigua desperately needs a TRUE independent media station.
    Observer radio and Crusader_Progressive radio fully UPP.

    Point FM and WTP fully ALP.

    Nobody knows if ZDK is even still open, and if it is, it’s now totally irrelevant thanks to Sean Bird.

  6. Antigua PM and all our politicians across the board too thin skin. So as people say something them nah want hear, they attack you and try shut you up. Come eenn like them politicians alone must lie n talk as they like round here.

    What become a Franz? Serpent fire he from Observer and we never hear from he again. UPP soon kick he out too if he don’t bow down to Serpent and start work in city south

  7. Darren and Chet have to be the biggest disappointments I’ve ever seen. How do you get fired or let go for doing nothing wrong and still be diplomatic about it? So what happened to freedom of speech in what is supposed to be a democracy? Your interview with the lady from Grenada was fair and balanced, you made absolutely no allegations towards anyone but Hitler had to be Hitler and threaten WTP because God forbid someone says something he doesn’t like.

  8. The question is. What’s next for DMW. You are Antiguan Born and Bread. Do not allow yourself to be controlled by a wannabe petty DICTATOR. We want to hear from you. Please do not ever consider ABS and associate yourself with the hired mercenary, maintain your high standard and remain neutral and say things just as you see them. Keep your dignity and STAND UP FOR THE PEOPLE

  9. We have a leader is narcissistic, Hitleristic and veeery thin skinned. He challenged Lester Bird back then so, what the hell if he’s challenged!? Chet Greene, you need to be a real man and stop cowering! Antigua and Barbuda, the last time I checked, has been very democratic. If someone doesn’t stand up to the bully, he’ll continue his spewing his venomous fear into his cabinet or fish bet.

  11. ZDK was the creator of political bias radio stations; not only in Antigua and Barbuda, but across the Eastern Caribbean.

    It created a country that led to the place where we cannot all speak freely and converse amongst each other without getting doxxed with our image or reputation destroyed and accosted on the internet or worse.

    The political parties derangement syndrome has taken over radio broadcasts as well as their social media arms.
    The creator of toxic media ZDK in Antigua is now presented with the opportunity to rebrand as a non political entity.

    In today’s media environment ZDK could come back and be a leader in the broadcast sector and Darren could play a major role in spite of the toxicity thats prevalent in the media.

    Irrespective of the small media market that Antigua and Barbuda is; there remains lots of room for a different player to compete and become a leader now that all others are politically connected; many in secret.

    They have surpassed that of an ordinary choir member.
    You have resigned to save the ALP.
    What does that make you?
    From the beginning, you are not a media personnel by the true sense of the word.
    You are a talk show host.
    It takes more to be a real media personality.
    Let it be known that this was a part time affair for you.
    You started at Observer Radio.
    While there you allowed Gaston Browne to infiltrate any and every show irrespective of the guest.
    You worshipped Gaston Browne to the disrespect of other Antiguan or foreign guest.
    You disrespected those who signed your cheques to please Gaston Browne.
    No programmed was out of Gaston’s rude interruption and intervention.
    To please Gaston you disrespect the management of Observer Radio.
    Karma is a female dog.
    Whenever you disrespect the hands that once fed you you will return as a stray dog.
    You disrespect was of such that you “dropped the mike at Observer and walked off the show”.
    Thankfully because of the reputation of Observer it was able to secure a proficient replacement in less than 24 hours.
    You went into bed with Satan, lucifer, belzebob and your worst nightmares.
    Although you left to please Gaston Browne he was not satisfied that you landed at WTP Radio.
    I guess it is always better to learn late than never.
    You have finally learnt that Chet and Gaston are work mates.
    They are not friends.
    They are mortal enemies.
    Gaston believe that radio stations in Antigua should borrow his patent and trademark to operate.
    You profess to be smart however you are learning late that things you should have learnt from the fore.
    Should I feel sorry for you?
    Never.
    When I was growing up I spent a lot of time watching The Young and The Reatless.
    My favorite character was Victor Newman.
    He used any and everyone to achieve his purpose.
    He walked on any and everyone to get to his destination.
    If you were not important along the journey to his goal he illuminated you.
    That’s Gaston
    Today you are now a political prostitute to him.
    I wonder if you were when you worked at Observer?
    You are no longer at observer where he could infiltrate any show to make himself look good.
    You are of no use to him!
    You are employed at tbe enemy radio station.
    Should I feel sorry for you?.
    Never! Neva! Nevril!
    No one trusts a traitor
    No one trusts a person who violated professional ethics.
    You are that person.
    You love the media.
    Don’t worry.
    You will come upon some big money enough to give you the push to opening and operating your own radio station.
    Until then, I have a grater if you would like it to wipe your face.
    I hope Serpent and Dave got a big cup of coffee sitting on the fourth floor of the ABI Building and watching you wallow in your sorrows.

  13. The person who is suggesting to bring Darren to ABS wants you to smartly join Pointe FM and WTP to strengthen Gaston Browne and ABLP . You are much more intelligent than that, don’t be a puppet for anyone regardless of how much money they come with, stay independent and keep your head high. Reject the corruption of ABLP and the comedy show that is UPP

  14. Great news! The traitor has left the building. Many of us knew it was just a matter of time when your true blue colors would fade into the dull gray that best defines you. When you appeared to leave Observer Radio in a huff and a puff, none but the simplest of fools raised an eyebrow. The decision to “be your own man” by starting your own Radio program was well in keeping with the old UPP/PLM playbook strategy of aiming to control all the Radio outlets and thereby control the mindset of a simple, party-loving, non-reading public. After all, you thought to could APE the success of the Derrick’s OBSERVER RADIO days. Control the airwaves, control the electorate. Being the nonentity that your guarded upbringing made you, few took you seriously. Your interest in attaching yourself to WTP was all part of your doomed master plan. The fact that Chet Greene accommodated in the first place, you speaks volumes for both yourself and Chet Greene.
    Just keep your sneaky, ineffective bait-setting for your doomed-to-fail UPP operatives. Get lost!

  17. Oh wowww, these comments r just inhumane. Let DMW have his peace after all. As soon as someone not singing ALP songs, they r automatically UPp. I have listened to DMW over the years and could not decipher who he supports along the way. The man was doing his job. @ Dave Ray, anyone who is in the piblic’s eye do put themselves in the way for scrutiny. So Gaston should not attack anyone who scrutinizes him. That’s what we call democracy. U all need to stop this RED and BLUE thing. Election done gone. Someone is their to govern all of us not one side. THINK ABOUT ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA.   20. As the late Winston Derrick would say, difference of opinion makes a horse race. That is part of being independent, being able to speak freely. Why gain
    independence from Britain and then punish people who encourage open dialogue. Antigua has retrogressed; it seems everywhere you go people are forced to tow the line or be punished, it’s even in the schools, like never before! Darren Matthew Ward like Brucella Marsh are great Antiguan talents and should be utilized to the benefit of our nation. It’s their birth right to call a spade a spade, if we keep victimizing our own people eventually, we will again become ‘slaves’ in our own country, and it doesn’t matter if the ‘slave master’ is black, slavery is slavery! Look at the deplorable state of ABS, all foreigners are now reading the news, do Antiguans dislike their own that much? Could NEVER happen in any other country around the world! And there is great Antiguan talent – Ercille Charles should be the anchor of our evening news, along with Terry Andrew and it doesn’t matter if he stutters, he’s our very own! Burfield doesn’t even like wearing our matras, he’s only here to make money, like the rest of them, you think they like Antiguans? Let us put Darren Matthew Ward on ABS, he would be a wonderful anchor along with Brucilla for Good Morning Antigua and Barbuda show. Since Brucilla was forced off the show it has lost its life and flavour. This great economic powerhouse can only happen if Antiguans are put in the top positions, afterall, it is the Antiguans past that made our country strong not the foreigners. It’s the Antiguans that built this country both the educated and the uneducated because they had the country at heart. Again, I say put Darren Matthew Ward and Brucilla at ABS and stop muzzling the voice of our people. Stop over looking Antiguans for foreigners whose main interest is to build their pocket books and not this country!

Darren, I admire the work you do on radio, but your biggest SIN is not worshipping the Fuhrer and his band of crazies especially Madame Dave Ray and that so-called Honorable Good Citizen Faithful National #1. They see Chet as a viable threat to the Leadership and up with that they will not put. It is my opinion though that Chet himself is also afraid of Gsston, he has relegated them to STRAW MEN

Antiguans are being pushed in the background at ABS, it’s something I’ve been noticing for years under this Labour Party regime ans it’s much, much worse under Gaston Browne, I truly believe this guy hates Antiguans, it’s as though he is taking out revenge on us for just being born here.

    Take for instance ABS will take their mike to the streets to get comments from people on a particular matter and more than 65% of the people are with a foreign accent this is not accidental, it’s deliberate, it’s a strategy to hug the majority of foreign votes along with the few locals here who cannot think for themselves and those who look forward political largesse at election time and after election can’t maintain themselves properly

  27. Mr.Word you failed because you compromised a bit. To tell the truth and not the whole truth is still a sin. So joining the WTP family was always going to be bothersome for you. In this article you mentioned that Chet Greene was always quoting you. This sounds like since you were on Observer Radio. Double edged sword cuts. Karma is real.
    I can remember the days when your good morning radio show was pure and journalistic. Then as you said Chet Greene started talking in your ears. Sorry that’s how I see it.
    Even your interview with the Grenada journalist was a bit soft. You are far better than that. However, because of trying to play things safely you were not as straight forward as you should. When I listened I said Mr. Ward is compromised. I did not know at the time that you did not do the interview on WTP media. I just thought that because of your affiliation with Chet and WTP you did not do a good Job.
    So as you said, old people say one door close and another door will open. I hope that you have learnt your lessons well and will never water down Darren Ward Journalistic skills or compromise yourself again.
    You were also again overly gracious and thankful to Chet Greene. Darren the old saying you mentioned mean, that God is in control and man believes they can close doors but God alone holds the future.
    Sir please look up in our constitution and laws and what it says about freedom of speech.( I believe you already know that by heart). Then you will tell the PM, Chet , ABLP, WTP media , Serpent and anyone who ever try this again with you go to…h
    You spoke of your supportive wife, I pray that she continues to support you. That if she is employed, that she holds down the fort. I will end by using the same quote you used in ending- Fortune Favors the brave. Be brave. You are educated enough, eloquent enough and I implore you to become brave enough and the sky will be yours limit. Even to become Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. Many great politicians are formed this way. Get as Brave as Sir Viv has been throughout his entire life. Maybe Chet Greene and WTP radio might just join you on that road of freedom of speech and protect journalism.

    Can you imagine that our PM uses his personal radio station to vilify citizens. Yet he threatens people who use freedom of speech to give their opinions on issues that affect the entire nation. You and Viv were both very professional, you never vilified anyone. You never said anything negative about anyone, which on the contrary the PM did and here you are out of your bread and butter.
    Hay thank no man. Chet is a member of the government, he is a cabinet minister. He represents Antigua and Barbuda and signs onto these international conventions- to protect human rights, especially freedom of expression. He and the entire cabinet are a bunch of cowards. He has nothing to loose. He was voted into office by the people of St.Pauls and has developed a bond with his people second to none. He doesn’t bully people, even his fiercest opposition. So why don’t he stand up with you against opposition, against freedom of speech, against victimization.
    Chet I am very disappointed in you especially. This is time to make your move sir. You are called for a time just like this. Remember what Short Bass stood for- short and Brave he was Chet. He feared no man and he had far less – less education but wiser, less money but wealthier, less power but uncompromising and his children are all well disciplined. LESS HIGHT BUT BRAVER. Stand up for Antigua and Barbuda, Stand up and put ABLP once more on the right path- freedom of expression!

  32. I honestly do not get the problem maybe there were things I missed that was aired on radio but I did watch him being interviewed and it was great reporting. Honestly great respect gain from that piece alone, highlighting the size of the issue, making it clear it’s not about party loyalty and a nonpartisan issue and also why it’s such a big thing being 50 mil being defraud by multiple parties from government, police and civilians which could help Antigua by being invested into infrastructure like roads which they said they didn’t have enough money for, medical institutes and schools

  33. I know Daren and Mr. Green ment good, but the first couple of programs were with UPP members. But I think u know that Antigua people are attracted to these types of confrontation and it made a lot of people listen, even though they say they don’t want that, but really they love it
