These dangerously hot and humid conditions cannot he taken for granted and we have to be ever mindful about the many elderly and less unfortunate folks that suffers immensely in their homes amidst this heat. Fans does little to help during this time and if you do not have air conditioning, as we say locally, “dog better than you.” As a people we have to begin to plan ahead and just as we designate certain places “shelters” during the hurricane season, the time has come when we have to designate and provide “cooling stations” that is, centers equipped with air conditioning, especially for the elderly and most vulnerable amongst us so that they can be taken there to get away from this deadly heat especially during daylight hours. This weather pattern is brutal and is even more so on the elderly.
