Customs Revenue Hits Record High Despite Concerns Over Rising Exemptions, Says Comptroller

Customs Comptroller Raju Boddu reported record-high revenue for the Customs Division, despite concerns over increasing exemptions impacting government earnings. Up to August 2024, exemptions totaled EC$235.02 million, up EC$1.99 million from 2023. Of these, EC$35.97 million were discretionary.

Despite vehicle exemptions of EC$0.46 million in August, EC$1.21 million in duties and taxes were still collected. August 2024 revenue reached EC$33.58 million, an 8.32% increase from 2023.

Overall revenue from January to August 2024 hit EC$312.29 million, a 19.66% rise from the same period in 2023. While revenue remains strong, Boddu is cautious about the impact of growing exemptions on future earnings.

  1. This is very good news!So
when will customs officers be getting their back pay and overtime that’s long overdue to them?

  2. Yeah I agree that is way too many exemptions for a small country like ours. But who are receiving these exemptions though?

  3. Revenue high…roads are as deplorable as they come. Can’t someone see the need to just put some “bbq sauce and coal” at the top of Lauchland Benjamin drive. Lord man. And that hole at the intersection with wireless rd why can that be patched?

This place is just downright sickening.
