Customs ‘Dollar Barrel’ Initiative Returns for Holiday Season

3

From December 1 to January 15, the Dollar Barrel initiative will offer residents a seasonal opportunity to import barrels or containers filled with approved personal items, including food, toiletries, and clothing.

Comptroller of Customs Raju Boddu notes that any shipments containing items outside these categories will be treated as regular imports, incurring full duty and taxes.

Participants will pay only a 10% revenue recovery charge on the barrel’s value and a $10 processing fee. The program has grown in popularity over the years, with many residents embracing the initiative each holiday season.

  1. This UPP initiative should be permanent and year-round. Antiguans should not pay import duty for personal use items.
