CIBER CUBA- The Ministry of Tourism of Cuba (MINTUR) announced on Monday that, starting July 1, 2025, the electronic visa will be the only valid way to enter the country.

The announcement was made through a statement on their official Facebook page, where the link to the portal https://evisacuba.cu/es/inicio for processing the application was also included.

“Starting from July 1, you will only be able to enter the country with an electronic visa. Please visit our website for all the information and to secure your visa quickly and easily,” the statement indicated.

The measure is part of an update to the immigration requirements for international travelers, aimed at digitizing and centralizing the entry processes into the country.

Recientemente, el MINTUR informó que en el caso de los turistas canadienses –uno de los principales mercados emisores para el turismo cubano– they will not have to pay for the visa, ya que está incluida en el precio del boleto aéreo.

However, they are required to complete a digital form on the official D’Viajeros site (https://dviajeros.mitrans.gob.cu) during the week prior to their trip.

Upon entering the country, travelers must present a QR code generated after completing a free form that does not require banking information.

The tourism authority also warned about the presence of websites with similar addresses that are not authorized by the Cuban government and that charge for visa processing, causing confusion among travelers.

For those traveling from third countries (excluding Canada), the process will be more extensive: they must first obtain an electronic visa through eVisaCuba and subsequently fill out the D’Viajeros form, emphasized MINTUR.

This announcement comes amid a prolonged crisis in the Cuban tourism sector, characterized by a sustained decline in visitor arrivals, frequent complaints from tourists, and issues related to safety and the quality of services in hotels and airports.

Throughout the first quarter of 2025, the outlook for tourism in Cuba has been characterized by a profound crisis, evident in a 30% drop in the arrival of international visitors, according to official figures released by the National Office of Statistics and Information.

The decline in tourism is not only evident in the statistics but also in the atmosphere of the streets. A viral video published in early March shows a Cuban walking down Obispo Street on a Saturday night, completely empty, in what was once one of the liveliest areas of Old Havana.

From abroad, the experiences of the few tourists who still choose Cuba have been varied. In March, a Russian family shared their vacation experience on the island, describing difficulties in finding food, failures in basic services, and inflated prices.

Despite the hospitality of the Cuban people, their testimony highlighted the structural shortcomings faced by visitors, which could influence their decision to return or recommend the destination.

These testimonies include that of an international tiktoker who documented their visit to private and state-owned businesses in the capital, showcasing everything from high prices to empty shelves.
