One of Antigua and Barbuda’s highest-achieving CSEC students, Emya Geness, was officially honoured in a special ceremony on Tuesday morning following an emotional moment at the country’s 2025 National CSEC Awards.
Geness, who was named Antigua and Barbuda’s top performer in Theatre Arts, had stumbled on stage during the national awards presentation—a moment that sparked widespread public support and admiration.
In a private ceremony at the Ministry of Education, she was formally presented with her award by Director of Education Clare Browne, accompanied by her proud parents, Ray and Anreka Geness.
Browne congratulated the young academic, describing the occasion as “the closing of a chapter and the beginning of a brighter one for one of Antigua and Barbuda’s shining stars.”
The Ministry’s statement described Geness as a symbol of perseverance and grace, noting that her story had resonated across Antigua and Barbuda as a reminder that “a moment of vulnerability does not define your worth.”
“To Emya and every student in Antigua and Barbuda who has ever doubted themselves after a setback,” the statement said, “this is your reminder that you are more than any single moment.”
The Ministry further praised Geness not only for her academic excellence but for demonstrating quiet courage and resilience, calling her recognition “a triumph, not an embarrassment.”
Geness’ achievement adds to Antigua and Barbuda’s growing reputation for producing outstanding CSEC performers across the Caribbean. She was among several students recognised for exceptional performance in the 2025 exams.
