Crabbs Reverse Osmosis Plant Issues Delay Water Distribution in Several Areas

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua (Jan. 28, 2026) — Water distribution from the Crabbs Reverse Osmosis Plant has been delayed following unforeseen operational issues that emerged after planned maintenance work, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority said Wednesday.

In a public advisory, APUA’s Water Business Unit said the issues arose after maintenance activities carried out on Tuesday, Jan. 27, resulting in a delay in water distribution from the facility.

The Crabbs plant has been in operation for more than three decades, and APUA noted that the age of the facility makes its systems more sensitive during and after maintenance works. Technical teams are actively addressing the problem and working to restore distribution as safely and efficiently as possible.

Where feasible, APUA said it will supply affected areas from alternative sources to help minimise the impact on customers. The utility also apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

Looking ahead, APUA acknowledged that the existing Crabbs facility has reached its commercial lifespan. Construction is expected to begin later this year on a new 3.2-million imperial gallon reverse osmosis plant at Crabbs, as part of efforts to improve the water network and strengthen long-term system resilience.

Areas affected by the disruption include Weirs, North Sound, Gunthorpes, Fitches Creek, Pigotts, Paynters Housing Project, Paynters East, Lightfoot East and West, Herberts Main Road, Sea View Farm, Potters East, Bellview Estate, Bayview, Herberts, Renfrew, Ferris Farm, Parham, Vernons Development, Diamond Estate, Pares, Mount Joy, Jonas Road, All Saints, Mock Pond, Freemans Village, the northern section of Roman Hill, Old Parham Road from Paint Plus, Cassada Gardens, Skeritts Pasture, Sutherlands, Carnival Gardens, the Government Office Complex, Sir Sydney Walling Highway from Potters Junction to the St. John’s Fire Station, Friars Hill Road east side from Village Walk to Government House, Upper Gambles, Campsite, Clare Hall and Wireless Road.

Customers seeking assistance or further information were advised to contact APUA’s Support Centre at 211.
