Court to Decide if Banker Brian Stuart-Young Will Be Jailed for Contempt
A court hearing set for April 11 will determine whether prominent banker Brian Stuart-Young will be jailed for contempt of court in a long-running US$10 million dispute with businessman Jack Stroll.
Stuart-Young and his bank, Global Bank of Commerce, were ordered in November 2022 to repay the sum to Stroll. However, court documents confirm that as of February 28, 2025, Stuart-Young remains in contempt for failing to comply.
The upcoming hearing will address both the unpaid funds and whether the banker faces imprisonment for defying court orders. Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan, speaking generally, said penalties for contempt could include jail, a fine, or both.
Stroll told Antigua.news that the case records have been sealed, limiting what he can disclose and raising concerns about transparency. Meanwhile, the Financial Regulatory and Supervisory Commission, led by Paul Ashe, has stayed silent amid mounting public concern over alleged mismanagement at Global Bank.

Which court in Antigua will jail or fine Young? Not one of them will do that. Brian is untouchable. He has the protection of the world boss. If a court orders you to pay someone within a couple of days pr weeks and years and you renege on the payment then you will be jailed. I knew instances where young fathers went to jail because they didn’t meet the deadline to pay child support. I know of matters where people failed to pay a fine and they went to jail. So this man Stuart decided he is above the law and will not pay the man HIS OWN money? Waw. I don’t know how to wrap this around my head. But what I will say is that when the day comes the court will not send this man to jail to dirty his precious linen. It’s a shame. The judicial system is for organized to protect the rich and be wicked to the poor. It is just what it is.
You see Randy, that’s the problem with rich people. People with money and class. They know they can buy out the judges and all of that so they don’t care about paying people back. The judges will quickly send a poor, rundown like me and you to jail for not paying someone on a timely manner. But these ones now, it takes forever.
