Court Orders Closure of Pigs Paradise Business Over Nuisance Claims

The High Court has ordered the closure of the controversial “Pigs Paradise” tourist attraction on Antigua’s west coast, ruling that the business constitutes a legal nuisance to neighbouring landowners.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Rene Williams, the court granted a permanent injunction against Pigs Paradise Ltd and its owner Chantelle Winter, prohibiting the operation of the business or the presence of pigs on or near the New Division Estate in the Jennings area. However, the court dismissed a related claim of trespass, citing insufficient evidence.

The case was brought by Vernon Hall and John Hall, representing the estate of the late Robert L.V. Hall, and J. Ray Hall, representing the estate of Albert Hall.

The claimants alleged that the defendants had unlawfully occupied a portion of their land to run the tourist attraction, which allows visitors to swim with pigs.

They argued that the pigs had caused extensive damage to vegetation—including mangroves—and created strong offensive odours by defecating on or near their property.

In response, the defendants maintained that their operations were confined to Seaforth Beach, Crown land under the Beach Control Act, and not on private property.

Ms. Winter further contended that her business was authorised by the Ministry of Tourism and that public access to the site had been established for over two decades.

But following a site visit and review of expert testimony, Justice Williams concluded that while the exact boundary between the foreshore and private land was not definitively surveyed, the nuisance created by the pigs’ presence was undeniable.

“The defendants are using the area in an exceptional manner,” the judge ruled.

“The presence of pigs is not necessary for the enjoyment of the foreshore and their activity is not a common or ordinary use.”

Although the court did not find sufficient proof to support trespass claims—largely due to the absence of tidal measurements establishing the legal high-water mark—it accepted evidence that the pigs had caused persistent foul odours and environmental disruption.

The court awarded $7,500 in legal costs to the claimants, reduced from the standard $10,000 to reflect the partial dismissal of their claim.

The ruling effectively ends operations of Pigs Paradise at the site, with the court suggesting the business may seek relocation through official Crown channels, given the lack of permanent infrastructure at the location.

Justice Williams apologised to the parties for the delay in delivering the judgment, which followed trial proceedings, written submissions, and a judicial site inspection between June 2024 and May 2025.

  1. This is such a great tourist attraction. I saw this on the Sandals Website and is one of the reasons i booked Antigua.

  2. Continuing to blindly cater to freaky white people who seem to have all power to make us do the unthinkable, it was just a matter of time before, thus nonsensical, unhealthy, bizarre activity came under public/official inspection. Pigs belong in a pen! If our white guests want to frolic with them, take them to the pigs’ natural habitat – a pig pen! Stay off our beaches! The local population highly values the enjoyment and therapeutic attractions of OUR beaches.
The officials may need to take a look at the presence of horses and dogs of beaches regularly enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

  5. There is an operation in the Bahamas exactly the same as this creative business person came up with, probably they should get in touch and visit the Bahamas to get more idea to bolster the business, because we were left without even human dignity by slavery, and we rise from the ashes and created wealth from nothingness, when we can have king short shirt, swallow , obstinate and Peter tosh and Bob Marley impacting this new world, so to we must commend these people for their creativity. And may there be an amicable resolution to this business that will create tourism aspirations when people browse Antigua website and find the similarities to Bahamas Swimming with the pigs venture.

  6. LOL but these people not easy. You running a profitable business in a location that you have no authority to operate from. lmao. I love this place. Everyday is something else

  7. I visited in 2023. We were on the beach only, never on anyone’s property unless they own the beach? Even the table we sat at for a brief rest was on sand. The pigs did not stink, and I gave a sensitive nose (I’m an African American so yeah we don’t do all those smells in the city in the states). This is a strange case… maybe there’s some lines I don’t follow with her being Caucasian and this being black land???? If so I always stand w my brothers & sisters. If not, why yall shut her place down? She could’ve restricted it to boat access only, etc. I just mow when I visited from Tennessee I learned a fk ton about pigs and they use the money from the b biz to care for the pigs so now what? This was a reach and I’m surprised they trespassed her and the pigs from the location…
During my trip with the pigs, there were several workers who were constantly scooping poop out of the water and from the sand in the beach. Also, again, we only stayed on the second and in the water it’s equivalent to bringing your dog to the beach, Except people are paying to see your dog at the beach. So… ???

  8. Some of us may not be animal lovers and think they belong tied up in the yard or in a pen because this is our custom. I have witnessed many tourists heartbroken when discovering this practice. Our animals serve as protection or raised for slaughter while they raise their animals as part of the family.
Now this nonsensical, bizarre activity has left soo much buzz internationally about our 108 and has also pumped impressive revenue into our 85% tourism gdp.

  9. Soo many water and land taxi operators benefit from this excursion, it’s a shame to see the court shut it down.
I’ve been there taking guests numerous times and I have never experienced foul scents coming from the pigs. However, There is salt pond lake across from the beach which holds a despicable odor.

  10. I wish I could shake the judge’s hand. If Pigs In Paradise wants to have people swim with pigs, buy property, build a pond or pool and let them swim there. Seaforth has always been a secluded beach where locals can enjoy nature and leave it they way they met it. It should stay that way and the Halls have always worked to ensure it does. No fetes need to take place there and no businesses should be run there. Some green spaces need to just be green spaces. Not everywhere needs to be overdeveloped. We accept all kinds of overseas nastiness in pursuit of money. It isn’t our culture to play with pigs much less bathe with them and it doesn’t need to be. On another note, there are animal lovers here who were born right here and are not white, so people need to stop trying to make it seem that black Antiguans hate animals. To each his/her own though. If people want to treat animals like family, they are free to do so in their own space. There is nothing wrong with it, but public spaces need to be respected as such.

  11. IVE NOTICED SOME OF YOU BRING “RACE” INTO THE CONVERSATION BECAUSE THE COMPLAINTS (THE HALL FAMILY) ARE CAUCASIAN. MAY I REMINDED SOME OF YOU YOUNGER ONES AND THE “AFRICAN AMERICAN” TOURIST, WHO WERE OK WITH PIGS ON THE BEACH BUT ANNOYED AT WHITE PEOPLE COMPLAINING. THE HALLS ARE AN INDIGENOUS “WHITE ANTIGUAN” FAMILY GOING BACK OVER 300 YEARS. THEY ARE JUST AS INDIGENOUS AS ANY OF US BLACK ANTIGUANS. THE LAND THEY OWN WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE BEACH AREA HAS BEEN IN THEIR FAMILY FOR WELL OVER 120 YEARS WHEN THE PATRIARCH, HONORABLE ROBERT HALL BOUGHT THE LAND FOR GRAZING AND AGRICULTURE. SO PLEASE DONT START THE RACE TALK ABOUT PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW. ESPECIALLY TO YOU THE “AFRICAN AMERICAN” TOURIST, YOURE NOT FROM ANTIGUA OR THE CARIBBEAN SO PLEASE STAY OUT OF ANTIGUA PEOPLE BUSINESS AND WORRY ABOUT YOURS IN YOUR AMERICA!

  12. Thank God is all I can say. The amount of people that have been bitten , thrown down , feom these pigs is not funny “MANY VISITORS” have had an eye opener when they have gone to this tour. They sell it as a Sanctuary but it is not. It is a business the clearly breed these animals just so there are piglets for the visitors to swim with if you can not see this something is wroung. What do you thi k happens to these piglets when they get to big to swim with. They are sent to the slaughter house. Many visitors have also gone home with ring worm because they do all there business on the beach ok they say they clean up from what I see in some comments but who swims with animals in the same water as they are shitting in? It is a health issue altogether. Think of it would you swim in water that has human shit going into the water I think not …. use you common sense people really think about the health issues alone. Think about where they house them it is right next to big creek from what I have been told….. where does all the pig shit go more than likely right into big creek that is another issue people are not thinking about. I mean everyone does what ever they wish to do no one can tell anyone not to swim with pigs of that is what they want to do. But just do some research and use your common sense as to what this really is health wise.

  13. The idea of tourist swimming with pigs is gross in every way.
It’s stated that this activity is approved by the Tourism Authorities (what ever that means).
    This raises so many questions.
What approval, and what are the criteria that goes into approval?
Should Antigua and Barbuda continue to allow grifters from abroad to enter its territory with novel activities where neither the individuals or organizations are vetted.
Local employment is not always to the benighted of Antiguans. Most employees were immigrants otherwise unemployable.
Antigua and Barbuda authorities are so busy looking at GDP data, that they fail to understand who are the primary beneficiaries of GDP growth.
