SOURCE: ABS- A judicial review hearing wrapped up today in a high-profile case that could determine whether a multi-million-dollar project at Cedar Tree Point moves forward or is struck down.

Barbudan fisherman George Jeffrey is taking on Antigua and Barbuda’s Development Control Authority,, with backing from the UK-based Global Legal Action Network.

The case relates to what he calls an illegal decision to greenlight construction inside the Ramsar-listed Codrington Lagoon.

They’re asking the court to quash the development permit granted in May 2022 for a luxury residential project by the Abercorn Trust, led by Englishman Henry Anderson.

  1. Protected to you say? I want to know who gave approval for construction to take place along the water way on factory road/Potters area. Few years ago a house was built on the opposite side of where the construction is now taking place and a stop order was given. How is it that the Syrian is now allowed to build when it is the same risky area?

  2. The greed and capricious avarice of the ABLP knows no limit, or boundaries when it comes to grease money. They will sell us right back into slavery and tell you; it is the price paid for development as progress for the zoned-in, zone-out existence of their bamboozlement: when, in truth, and facts; their mantra is that anything good in Antigua 🇦🇬 Barbuda, is too good an inheritance deserving for our Ancestor’s toil of tears and pain. And the benefits goes to the quasi elitist few among us; who’d sell us off as pawn for a pittance of the enslavers gain. Such a diabolical ploy proffered by the greedy fetid few, parading in stuffed button.suits, and all of them posturing as minister’s of foreign affairs; who doesn’t give a rat’s ass for the plight of people like you and me-who recognize their scheme as reverting to Colonization by the dollar. Yes! There ought to be a law; and a firing squad wall reserved in perpetuity.

  3. The DCA needs to prove not just that they consulted—but that they followed the law. Environmental laws exist to protect us all.

  4. If the law says publish the EIA, then publish the EIA. Skipping steps isn’t a ‘minor error’, it’s a breach of public trust and the law.
