A growing number of countries are moving to restrict access for American travellers after the United States widened its travel ban and tightened visa rules.
Washington recently expanded visa restrictions to 39 countries, including Antigua and Barbuda and several Caribbean and African states, citing security concerns and immigration overstays. The move has drawn sharp criticism and prompted calls for reciprocal measures.
Niger has taken the strongest action so far, announcing a complete and indefinite ban on visas for US citizens and prohibiting their entry.

The decision marks a significant escalation, despite longstanding US travel advisories warning Americans against visiting the country because of security risks.
Chad has also suspended visas for US nationals after appearing on an earlier US travel ban list. Its president said the measure would remain in place until “equality and mutual respect” in travel policies were restored.
Elsewhere, diplomats from affected countries have warned that further retaliatory steps could follow if US restrictions are not reconsidered.
In the Caribbean, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica are among the countries facing tighter US rules on business and student visas. Regional leaders say reciprocal action remains under review.

Analysts warn the rise in visa disputes could strain diplomatic relations, disrupt international travel and harm tourism-dependent economies, signalling a shift away from long-standing global travel norms.

Realistically though, no country that depends heavily on the United States for tourism would even consider a restriction on US travelers. Those African countries who seek to do is not as heavily dependant on tourism as we are. For us in the Caribbean, any such move would be counter-productive, fruitless and impractical. It is really up to us to correct the impediments that have allowed the US to impose visa restriction on us and not try to fight, challenge and clash with Washington.
African nations do have loads of valuable minerals which 🇺🇸 needs, so they have leverage.
Caribbean Tourist islands have nothing to use as bargaining tools.
What Antigua and Barbuda can do is to stop making it so easy for Americans to own property in Antigua and Barbuda, especially those beach front lands that Gaston love to to sell them, when you cut white privilege that is effective than trying to do reciprocal visa band for USA citizens or any Caucasian, because they all support each other, you saw how donald trump reach out to those old German apartheid beneficiary in south Africa and offer instant citizenship. You Gaston brown have to stop your greed and prostitution of our country, do you think you were smart or academic to just deliver Barbuda lands to Oppenheimer friends and colleagues? Don’t you see you are functioning under the rulings of white hegemony as a little black person should in their books, not able to think or reason, don’t you find it funny that when Africa resources is discussed that France , Russia and USA is mentioned but never the president or people of those African countries, that’s the paternalistic view that they know what’s best for us, we are just ignored as things or a pet animal, emasculated and infantilized.
So Gaston stop giving out our land resources and legislation in parliament for buffer zone and tax concessions to white monopoly capital domination, cut white privilege as the answer to the visa travel band.
Antigua has neither the conviction nor the luxury to do this. This island like to think of itself as independent, though nothing of the sort is true. Antigua is as dependant on the US, the auK and the EU now as they were when they were a colony. And we all know beggars can’t be choosers. And that’s how Antigua makes it’s money through aid. By begging.. The country cannot speak it’s mind as it cannot afford to pay the consequences. Especially as we produce nothing. This is why governments were warned not to only rely on tourism. But when have Antiguans ever used intelligence to solve anything? About time we started
Regional leaders say reciprocal action remains under review.
Can anyone factually name any leader who has said this? Also provide the source to corroborate.
@anansi: I beg to differ: if the the black citizens are empowered with land ownership and financing and own almost all the business like in Bahamas and the virgin islands where the government gives latitudes to it’s citizens, the government won’t have to beg. And a nation is only respected if they own the resources, but so far the government is following the neocolinial agenda as you described by giving beach front lands to foreign white investors, and any property you give to these white people automatically has their countries army protection, so we would be bombed if we try to make any changes to their property in the future or pay dearly for it in the court, the alpha Nero and half moon bay should be an example, which puts us at other people mercy as beggars. This is what makes American powerful, that their government finance them and empower them with property’s and military backing.
Finally, maybe Americans will get a taste of what it feels like when doors aren’t always open to them. Actions have consequences.
This PM doesn’t have the spine to do what is right, because he loves the free money too much, and that is to scrap the CIP.
But he won’t do it, because that money is too sweet in his pocket. We also know he cannot afford to tighten the CIP rules any further, because the criminals that used Antigua for a safe haven, won’t be attracted to such strong scrutiny, and will go other places where they can get easy entry.
It’s not even a hard place to be in, but the money is too sweet in the pockets of these corrupt bastards.
We all saw how sweet the ALPHA money was and how hard they went after it..all now we don’t even know where that $40 mil went, or do we?
I guarantee you if you get a police report for all CIP residents,90% of them have some kind of criminal history on that report, guaranteed.
Yep.
Lmao, because Americans really NEED to come to Antigua. There are NO OTHER islands they can visit.
I guess tourism ISN’T Antiguas main industry
Travel policy must be equal. No double standards.
Dialogue and diplomacy must prevail. This tit-for-tat could get out of hand quickly.
Why do allow an enemy to enter your house ?
First: Why USA post restrictions on Antigua?
Was something that happened suddenly? Or USA warned Antigua of the loopholes that CBI system here allow any person purchase a Passport without being resident over here?
Just bring some cash, invest in some land or property and Yupi..your whole family without being here, not even knowing the Parish where the supposed property is located, get a passport.
That allowed during decades plenty weird names holding passports from Antigua. Many of those names are part of terrorist organizations around the world and are traveling easily trough Europe, Canada, USA. Of course many of them got caught already but still a lot of them keep roaming around holding an Antigua Passport.
USA suggest to Antigua to tight the conditions prior giving a Passport using CBI..
Antigua just add ” The applicants just need to be on island for 4 weeks to get the passport” For serious?
Any regular citizens need to live 8 to 10 Years to get citizenship and a person just purchasing a property in Jolly Harbour can get a Passport with their family included?
That is laughable.
But yeah is a good idea to ban All USA Citizens, and airlines, and shipping companies, No problem, do it, Also Ban all Yatchs, Ban all construction investments, we no need Nothing from USA, Canada, UK, or Europe, tell them to go away. GO AHEAD. We can do better with Russia and China.
And of course with Niger and Chad we can do a lot a lot. Yeah Man go Ahead.
Let’s be real: banning Americans could hurt us more than them. Tourism keeps food on people’s tables.
Yes, it would hurts us deeply if we banned or implemented visa travel for all America citizens to Antigua and Barbuda. Firstly, Antigua does not manufacture anything. We depend on the American economy for everything including tourists. Secondly, majority of our families and people live in America. Thirdly, majority of our international flights comes out of America. I think we need to go to the drawing board and revamp the Citizens by Investment Program (CIP). Too much criminals are getting our passport and ending up in America and Canada. America has a better system to dig into these criminals backgrounds than we hear in Antigua. America will continue do random checks on immigrants background annual and we in Antigua do not. Once we give them the passport through the CIP we stop digging into their background.
if u ban them, they’ll force their government to review the policy!
