Contractor Robbed at Fake Roadblock in Broad Daylight

What appeared to be a routine traffic stop turned into a violent ordeal on Friday afternoon when a contractor was ambushed by two gunmen posing as road workers.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Sir Andy Roberts Drive. The victim, who was driving alone, encountered traffic cones and two men in reflector vests signalling him to stop. Believing it to be legitimate, he slowed his vehicle before being forced out at gunpoint.

The assailants escaped with more than $19,000 in payroll cash, the contractor’s mobile phone, and his Jeep. Police later recovered the vehicle abandoned in Cades Bay, but the money and phone remain missing.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the armed robbery and are appealing for information from the public.

  1. The government should get solar powered streetlight with camera combination out of china to replace all existing streetlights system and help the police and government solve crime.

  2. This incident is truly frightening because it shows how far criminals are willing to go to trick innocent people. Most of us were raised to respect traffic authorities and stop when flagged down, especially when we see cones and reflector vests. Now, it seems we have to second guess even that.More fightening each day in this country. The boldness of these gunmen is alarming. If they can pull off something like this in broad daylight, on a public road, it means they have no fear of being caught. I really hope the police take this seriously and not just issue a statement. We need more patrols and visible presence on our main roads to deter these types of attacks.

  5. Come on man!! I am tired of reading these stories.

This is the 21st century. Whyyyyyy are people still carrying around large amounts of cash? Why are people still paying workers with cash?

Move your business into the 21st century. As part of the hiring process, ask for bank account details and send the salaries to the bank. And don’t tell me nonsense about people not wanting to open bank accounts and blah blah……

Criminals are getting away with crime because we are allowing them to get away with crime. Don’t you think that criminals are out there watching to see that you are going to the bank for payroll?

Face it….crime is never ever going to go away because we are humans. We can put up cameras, do patrols, even neighborhood watches to help MINIMIZE crime, but it will never go away.

As law abiding citizens we have to start thinking smarter that the criminals, and know that one day they will be caught. Best believe they will end up one of three places….Barnes, Straffie’s, or 1735. Wherever they end up I know they will rot.
