Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey says the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will mark “a turning point” for the 56-nation bloc.
Speaking at the official launch of the event at Sandals Grande Antigua on Tuesday, Botchwey said the world is facing “extraordinary global strain” — from climate change and rising debt to stalled economic growth — and urged member states to unite around shared values.
“This is the Commonwealth’s moment to restore growth and prosperity through trade, investment, skills development and climate action,” she said. “The world needs what the Commonwealth offers — a spirit of fraternity that bridges divides.”
Antigua and Barbuda will host the 24th CHOGM from 1–4 November 2026.
