Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda – A delegation from the Protocol, People’s, Youth and Women’s Forums of the Commonwealth Secretariat and the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police will visit Antigua and Barbuda from 7th to 12th April, 2025, to engage with key stakeholders in a collaborative effort to plan the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, which will be held in Antigua and Barbuda.
The delegation’s visit is co-ordinated by the Antigua and Barbuda High Commission and is a significant step towards ensuring a smooth and successful CHOGM in 2026.
Representatives from various sectors will collaborate to finalise plans across a range of key areas, including security, event logistics, youth engagement, and women’s empowerment initiatives.
During their stay, the team will meet with local government officials and key stakeholders to ensure that the island’s infrastructure, services, and resources are meticulously prepared to host the prestigious international event.
Additionally, the delegation will visit Antigua’s sister island for a comprehensive tour, reviewing potential venues and facilities that could be utilised for the high-level meeting.
“This visit represents an exciting opportunity for Antigua and Barbuda to further solidify our role as the host of CHOGM 2026 and to showcase our nation’s readiness to engage with the global Commonwealth community,” said the Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs.
“We look forward to collaborating with the Commonwealth team to ensure that the event will be a memorable and impactful occasion for all involved.”
The delegation will also focus on strengthening partnerships between civil society and the youth, as well as promoting women’s involvement in the event’s planning, providing an opportunity for both young people and women leaders in Antigua and Barbuda to engage directly with Commonwealth representatives.
As part of the visit, a series of meetings and briefings will be held to discuss tourism and hospitality strategies, ensuring that the islands’ hotels and tourism providers are well-prepared to accommodate international delegates and guests.
The team will also meet with stakeholders to assess security measures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants during CHOGM 2026.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is a biennial summit of Commonwealth leaders, bringing together Heads of Government from the 56 Commonwealth nations to discuss key issues and foster global cooperation.
The 2026 summit will mark a significant milestone for Antigua and Barbuda as the host nation, underscoring its growing role on the international stage and instilling a sense of pride in our nation.
