Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney delivered an inspiring address to the graduating class of Course 49, urging the 69 new recruits to embrace their responsibilities with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
Speaking at the Sir Wright F. George Police Training Academy, Rodney highlighted the importance of their training and the expectations placed upon them as the newest members of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda.
“You have demonstrated your capacity to learn, your ability to learn, and your willingness to learn,” Rodney said. “As a result, you have arrived at this landmark, ready to enhance your knowledge and be proficient in your responsibilities as police officers and firefighters.”
Rodney emphasized the six core values of the police force—professionalism, integrity, honesty, leadership, partnership, and service—encouraging the recruits to carry these principles into their daily duties.
“As you prepare to hit the road, I urge you to focus on what you have learned and be prepared to apply it,” he said. “Antigua and Barbuda demands competent police officers and dedicated firefighters.”
The Commissioner reminded the recruits that their profession requires constant vigilance and accountability. “The public expects much of you, and you must deliver with honor and devotion,” he added.
Acknowledging the efforts of the instructors and facilitators, Rodney expressed gratitude for their role in preparing the recruits. “The knowledge and experience shared with you during your training will go a long way in shaping your careers,” he said. “I commend the Commandant and staff of the Academy for their hard work and dedication.”
He highlighted the comprehensive nature of the training program, which included theoretical instruction, practical exercises, and exposure to real-world scenarios. “You were exposed to essential but relevant topics, preparing you to be effective in these challenging times,” Rodney said.
Drawing inspiration from scripture, Rodney reminded the recruits of the strength they can find in perseverance. “Isaiah 40:29 tells us that God gives strength to the weary,” he said. “When you face difficulties, remember that strength and resilience will carry you through.”
Rodney urged the graduates to stand out as leaders in their communities and maintain the public’s trust.
“The investment made in your development now requires you to stand up, show up, and show off,” he stated. “Be diligent in your duties and remain committed to the safety and security of Antigua and Barbuda.”
Rodney concluded by reaffirming the police force’s dedication to ongoing training and development. “The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda will continue to invest in training at all levels to meet the demands of this vital profession,” he said. “The nation expects excellence, and I am confident you are ready to deliver.”
The ceremony marked a proud milestone for Course 49.
