Imagine you are a woman and you are five foot four inches tall.
You just got home this late afternoon after work.
As you make your way up the steps to your front door, you open the door and, like normal, go inside.
However this time, before you even had a chance to close your front door behind you, you suddenly realize that there is a big man inside waiting for you.
You are immediately startled by the discovery and instinctively let out a loud scream for help while attempting to retreat outdoors, but in a flash, the man slams your door shut; grabs you from behind, pulling you into himself and locking an arm tightly around your waist.
Almost at the same time, the man puts his second hand over your mouth, muffling your screams.
No one hears your screams. Your closest neighbours are not at home as yet.
Being withstrained closely from behind in a tight grip, you quickly estimate that your attacker is more than six feet tall and built like a wrestler.
You are powerless to get away.
Your attacker did not hide his identity and seemed familiar to you.
You recognize the man as a neighbour who lives 10 houses down your street.
Before today, you both hardly spoke to each other.
It the midst of your struggle to free yourself, your attacker finally speaks to you, telling you that it is his intent to molest you and if you dare put up a struggle or tell anyone, then he promised to make your life a living hell, or even kill you.
Imagine being overpowered, on the verge of being molested, but instead of protesting and saying NO! to your attacker, you calmly acquiesce and say to your attacker: “I know I cannot stop you so please make sure you wear a condom.”
Does that sound like a reasonable reaction in such a situation?
I do not think that any self-respecting woman would willingly allow herself to be violated without putting up a fight.
That scenario I just depicted, unfortunately describes the response of our Caricom leaders to the US insistence that our countries accept refugees/deportees.
What strikes me about the response of our leaders is that none of them has flatly refused publicly to accept deportees.
Our leaders are willing to allow their country’s sovereignty to be violated without putting up a semblance of resistance. They have simply accepted their fate as inevitable!
I heard a commentator swoon over the prime minister of Grenada because, he raised the bar with high standards regarding the quality of deportees Grenada will accept. Grenada was placing so-called high standards on who was to pay for the deportees transportation and accommodations, etc.
For that commentator, the Grenadian prime minister was at the head of the class.
I found the whole commentary very laughable.
That commentator was basking in the delusion that any stipulation our countries make will be honoured by the US. Clearly he is one of those who buys into the notion of a binding, “non-binding MOU”.
In his naivety, he failed to recognized that if you are bullied in the first place to take deportees against your will, what makes you think that these so-called “standards” or stipulations will be taken seriously by the US.
This is tantamount to our leaders saying: “I will accept your bullying so long as you give me deportees that I prefer.”
Sounds ridiculous? It is!
What I find amazing is that our weak leaders have spun the narrative to give the impression that they have control.
Some have even hinted that they want deportees that could contribute to the development of their country.
Really?
Are we living in the Matrix?
No matter how many standards and stipulations our leaders make as conditions for accepting deportees, they ultimately do not have any say as to who winds up in our countries. Plain and simple!
Our leaders as always will default to the US standards, just like they do with other “international standards”.
It is clear that we are in no position to refuse to accept any deportee that is sent.
Once the US ships out whomever they feel to our countries, I dare any of our self-deprecating leaders to send them back, if they find out that they do not fit their play-play standards!
It is pathetic that none of our leaders can simple say no!

Sir you got it wrong. The salvery never left. Hence Bro. Bob’s song still has so much relevance today. You have a visa am sure. You have trading partners for your business in the USA I am sure. Our Leaders did not go bending over. We were never standing up straight in the first place. We all caused this problem. Start blaming yourself first. We ALL want what they fool us into thinking we cannot live without. Look in the mirror. The problem starts there. Not at the feet of our Leaders.
Oh just wait until you see exactly how many show up, its way more than the 10 they tried to lie about to get you to accept it . Ask anyone in parliament what the real number is and see how much you can actually depend on your so called “leaders” of this country
Yves, I posted a comment either last week or the week before. I said Gaston will accept whoever and how many Trump sends. Gaston said he would accept those with skills, I also reminded him CRIMINALS have lots of skills too. This PM thinks our brains are wired the same as his idiotic followers. Crime here is out of control, when his skillful deportees arrive, there will be an explosion in the crime rate
Yes, surely: The people were sold and bought without any inclination as for profit and lost margin of depreciation; attributed to their self worth. But how could I be any the least subjectively surprised; knowing fully well, that we exist in these existential quasi independent matrix of sovereignty: and under the guise of the all knowing nationalistic overlord with trickling down effect. And, knowing that independence, is but a staid conjective overture; offered as rational autonomy for appeasement to us; to go quietly into subjunctive concurance to be free from what? but only like a form from the puppeteer’s strings; rather than the puppet mentality? This begets the practicality of survival. Not of the fittest per si– but of survival period. With, even the bitter taste lingering, notwithstanding. Such is the epitome of our practical existence here in the turbulance incubator of geopolitical convenience. Where we are as weighted, and found wanting, to the point where, the powers that be; can summarily piss on our heads; and tell us- it is just raining. Not to worry: just cover up, put up and shut up. What recourse powers do we have, to offer up any kind of resistance; when independence becomes the synonym of dependence? And we knowingly encourage self abuse by catering in subtle self-emulating tendencies; to dis-abuse ourselves for self appeasing grandeur of fragmented adulation and, tribal dissonance. How is it that we are so imbued: that we! who are the witnesses of debuting subjugation; allow ourselves to becomes the conduit alliance to that subjective faith; by encroachment and, the embracement of apartheid practices. Within our societal domain of reference; for a few dollars more. And, without batting an eye of contemptible disdain for the optics of our physical view. I beg to differ. And forgive me if I may. But please. Someone, anyone: please reference me a place on this God given Earth’s. Where Antiguans 🇦🇬 Barbudans can travel to, and embark on enclave encroachment “ala” Such as *Mill Reef, PHL, Yeda, et, al. as practiced in this: our domain. And with tactical compliments of the prevailing governance; predicated on the sanctity of the have, and, the have-nots. What treaties lie therin, that is binding; and is not broken or obscure without recompense? Alas! Does the tail wag the dog or, the dog wags it’s tail? This is indeed the sum total of our quasi independent posturing, while we prostrate at the feet of the fleetingly super overlords self-enthroned. Yet still. To fight or, not to fight, is battle: when survival becomes the only sovereign skill left to take, or, to take-back. And not to be left alone adrift.
Yves is continuing to look for attention. What is happening in your marriage? Please solve it and get a live.
@ Less We Forget
When people such as you cannot argue with facts you try to deflect with nonsense to defend this Charlatan masquerading as a leader. What is sad is that someone like you is born somewhere in the world every day, so there is no escaping your type. I honestly believe you truly did not comprehend what you read
If not for extortion Trump would be nothing more than a fat, bellicose, extraordinarily narcissistic bar brawler.
I’m sorry that you folks have to suffer with him and his “policies” as we do.
The ” Less We Forget” is truly hurt. We always know the truth through their comments or their failures to do so. I wish what Yves expressed weren’t so but sadly, “Less We Forget” has just agreed.
@Less We Forget. Why the personal attack? What does his marriage have to do with the ideas he put forth? Try refuting his arguments. This is why so many of us as commenters use aliases.
You usually have meaningful contributions to make but you seem to be lowering yourself to the likes of Faithful National #1 and others.
@ Right Winger, couldn’t agree with you more especially when it comes to Faithful National #1. Obviously a very sensible person but so full of hate, refuses to put the Nation above petty politics, same as Less We Forget
Less We Forget is still the dumbest commentator on these ANR threads. Bar none!
I stopped paying him any mind from last year when he ridiculously compared Gaston Browne’s garbage collection stunt with Jesus’s washing of feet.
The man’s an unrivalled idiot!
Mind you, he’s still trying to be a relevant Gastonite on here despite others disappearing with their tails between their legs through shame.
He have no shame it seems…
Yves. Not only did our so call leaders failed to stand up. They hid the molestation as long as they could. Just like rape is only when one victim speaks out the others come out as well. So they kept it from us the people. We still do not know the details of these agreements.
I think that most of them are being blackmailed , they own houses, businesses, medical insurance and are using the US banking system for illegal transactions. Some have US millionaires in bank accounts to protect.
They are both now corrupt and powerless. Caricom has not made a single statement in the interest of the people of the Caricom.
Any day we can wake up and hear new sanctions. In fact any day you will hear and hear one or a bunch of them arrested for corruption.
