The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard extends best wishes to all residents and visitors for a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend.

As this period traditionally sees increased beach activity and marine traffic, members of the public are strongly advised to observe the following safety guidelines:

Beach Safety:

Swim only in designated areas and remain aware of changing sea conditions.

Avoid swimming alone; always use the buddy system.

Supervise children at all times when near or in the water.

Refrain from excessive alcohol consumption if intending to swim.
•Be mindful of strong currents, rip tides, and sudden drop-offs.

Boating and Maritime Safety:

• Ensure all vessels are seaworthy and equipped with the required safety gear, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, flares, and communication devices.
• All passengers must wear life jackets while underway, especially in small crafts.

Do not overload vessels beyond their recommended capacity.
Operators should always remain vigilant and refrain from alcohol consumption or other substances that might impair judgment.

Document and share a passage plan with a reliable contact before departure (family, friends or ABDF Coast Guard).
Monitor weather updates and avoid going out to sea in adverse conditions. A high surf advisory remains in effect

• Maintain safe speeds and proper lookout to avoid collisions, particularly in congested areas.

General Advisory:
• Jet ski and watercraft operators must exercise caution near swimmers and adhere to designated zones.
• In case of emergency at sea, contact the Coast Guard immediately via marine VHF Channel 16 or emergency contact numbers.

The Coast Guard will maintain heightened patrols throughout the holiday period to ensure compliance and assist where necessary.

Your cooperation is essential in preventing accidents and ensuring a safe environment for all. For assistance, please contact the Coast Guard hotline @ 268-462-3206, 462-2841(2)(3) or the Operations Officer, Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Randolph Best @ 268-729-5802.
