One member of the national Antigua football team management has been granted bail and another denied bail.

After being charged, 49-year-old Derrick Edwards was granted JMD $200,000 bail and 48-year-old Danny Benjamin was denied bail.

They were arrested on Monday when ganja was reportedly found in a checked luggage at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston.

The men appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court this morning to answer to the charges of possession of ganja, taking preparatory steps to export to ganja and conspiracy.

The police said the drug was detected in one of the football officials’ luggage during X-ray examinations at the airport.

When the bag was searched, a backpack containing two rectangular packages of approximately 3.6 pounds of ganja was reportedly found in a false compartment. The drug has an estimated street value of $16,000, according to police.

The team was departing the island following their 1-1 draw in a friendly international match with the Reggae Boyz at Sabina Park on Sunday.
