ABMS – Tropical Disturbance AL94 is currently heading toward the Caribbean, posing potential threats to the Leeward Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
While it has not yet developed into a tropical cyclone, there is considerable uncertainty about its future track and intensity.
Although the immediate threat to the islands is minimal, the situation may change in the coming days.
Residents are advised to have a hurricane disaster plan in place and closely monitor the disturbance’s progress.
AL94’s current position is approximately 2,061 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands, moving west at 13 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
Environmental conditions are becoming more conducive for further development, making the formation of a tropical depression or tropical storm likely in the next couple of days.
Based on forecast models, the center of what could become Tropical Storm or Hurricane Tammy might approach the area on Friday or Saturday, but it’s too early to determine potential hazards.
As of now, no tropical cyclone alerts, watches, or warnings are in effect, but an alert could be issued by Monday if AL94 continues on its current path.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the tropical system’s progress and stay prepared for the rest of the hurricane season.
