Antigua and Barbuda has intensified preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) with a new round of training for public officials.
The sessions are being held at the Training Centre of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force and involve officials from several ministries and agencies. They are aimed at strengthening coordination and operational readiness ahead of the international summit.
Foreign Affairs Minister E. P. Chet Greene said CHOGM 2026 represents a major national undertaking, requiring strong collaboration across government to ensure security, efficiency and a positive experience for visiting delegations.
He noted that the training supports wider efforts to enhance public service capacity and position Antigua and Barbuda as a capable host for major international events.
Ambassador Dr Clarence Pilgrim said the establishment of the National CHOGM Secretariat has provided a central framework for planning and coordination, helping to address emerging challenges and align agencies involved in the process.
Defence Force Chief of Staff, Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, said preparations were entering a critical phase, with planning now moving from strategy to execution. He stressed the importance of discipline, coordination and timely decision-making.
CHOGM 2026 will bring together leaders from across the Commonwealth, placing Antigua and Barbuda at the centre of global diplomatic engagement.
