The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda, Zhang Yanling, has highlighted China’s progress and the strengthening of ties with its Caribbean partner during celebrations marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic.
Speaking at a commemorative gathering, Ambassador Zhang expressed gratitude to longstanding friends and partners who, he said, have supported China’s development while fostering deeper cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda.
“What happened 76 years ago on October 1st was a milestone in the history of the Chinese nation,” he said. “It marked the beginning of a new era where the destiny of China would be determined by the Chinese people.”
Zhang pointed to the strides made under the Communist Party of China’s leadership, citing rapid economic growth, improved social stability, and better living standards. He noted advances in education, medical care, and elderly care, as well as a rise in life expectancy from 35 years in 1949 to 79 years today.
He also underscored the role of technology in transforming industries and expanding public access to more efficient and inclusive services.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to peaceful development and international cooperation. He said China’s partnership with Antigua and Barbuda was part of a wider effort to contribute to global progress.
“While sticking to its peaceful development pathway, China continues to work closely with Antigua and Barbuda and other partners to play a responsible role for the betterment of the world,” Zhang told the gathering.
The commemoration reflected on China’s past, acknowledged its present achievements, and looked ahead to further collaboration with Antigua and Barbuda.
