Farmers in Antigua and Barbuda will receive training in modern irrigation methods under a China-backed initiative.
The three-week course, running from 16 October to 5 November at the Villa Polyclinic, will focus on water-saving techniques to improve crop production in drought-prone conditions.
The programme is part of the China Aid initiative and is being delivered in partnership with the Chinese Embassy, Yuan Long Ping High-Tech Agriculture Co, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Chief Extension Officer Owolabi Elabanjo said the training will help strengthen food security. Farmers can register through the Agricultural Extension Division.

two different places get it right people
If its one thing I can say about China is that they have their agriculture under control
Strange when the Israelites came her and started the Melon farms that is what they taught the farmers to do. Drip irrigation. But you think our hard headed farmers will learn? No the will resort back to their own way and complain about water scares. I mean you can take a horse to the well but you cannot make it drink. I can only hope that our young upcoming farmers are more susceptible to new the new agriculture technologies. These days people do not even grow certain crops in the ground. A farm in many countries is like a glass house and everything in on tables and computerized. Soil is hardly used.
Training is good, but what about giving farmers the actual equipment and resources to put these methods into practice? Touching question. Even though I know the government officials won’t answer
The black race must be always infantilized, they can’t take care of themselves, now china will teach us to save water. All it takes is for us to break this colonial shackle on our minds, start allowing private wells drilling for water around Antigua like in the virgin islands and Bahamas and like how prime minister Gaston brown selfishly did for himself only, and if the farmers and other people are able to get their own water resources we can feed our self at a lower cost. The resources of Antigua was colonized and controlled by Britain at the time of slavery and remain on the books of APUA a statutory corporation as state asset up to this day, if they allow people to drill for their water that will create a next industry in equipment services. We don’t have no subway underground like the USA and others to have these laws of prohibition of drilling for water, the UK at the time did so to maintain the rights to oil if discovered. So Chinese please go away, it’s a problem with the black African mind need liberating, not controlled.
