A housing development funded by the People’s Republic of China at Louis Hill in Barbuda is approaching the construction stage, with most surveying work already completed.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant provided the update during Thursday’s post-Cabinet news briefing.

“They are moving forward at a fast pace,” Merchant said. “I know that the surveys are being conducted; the majority have been conducted at the Louis Hill facility, and so it’s a matter of mobilization.”

The development forms part of the government’s plans to expand housing opportunities in Barbuda.

Merchant said the grant from China to finance the construction of the homes has already been secured.

“The grant from the People’s Republic of China for the construction of these homes in Barbuda is already in place,” he said. “It’s just a matter of mobilization and getting started.”

The update followed Cabinet’s ratification of the first freehold land certificates for Barbudans under the government’s EC$1-an-acre land programme.

The government did not announce a construction start date, the number of homes to be built or a completion schedule for the Louis Hill development.

  1. Anything to get Barbuda’s land. The government needs to stop selling our lands. What will be left for us?

  2. When will Barbudans understand the simplest thing about Barbuda Land. IT IS CROWN LAND. It belongs to the CROWN. Which is the Government of Antigua and Barbuda when they received INDEPENDENCE all that was vested in the CROWN was vested in the Government. And the government is whomever we choses to represent us. The Communal right myth has been debunked with the Privy Council ruling.

  3. With all these FreeBeeze we are creating a very horrible people that believes they are entitled to get everything for free. That cancer will be very hard to cure. Sometimes politicians do not understand the consequences of their good deeds. The Bible teach us to take care of the poor, but not of every men and women. For if you do not work you will not eat. And it is better to teach a men how to fish than to give him a fish. because teaching him how to fish will feed him for a life time.
2 Thessalonians 3:10 that anyone unwilling to work should not eat.
Genesis 3:19 NIV;KJV – By the sweat of your brow you will eat
Stop creating a MONSTER of the Barbudan people.
And also start demanding that Public Servant give a full days work for a full days pay. It is demotivating for the good ones to continue putting their shoulders to the wheel while at the end of the month it matters not in their pay check.
My philosophy in life is, One bad Apple can spoil the Whole Bunch. Therefore if their is a rotten apple, remove it before it infects the entire basket. And yes we have labour laws to follow, but I think it better to cut you losses then to let the entire basket rot. My rough estimation of the Public Servants is that 40% does the work of 60%. So of every 10 workers, only 4 are really doing the work.
I have watch the young students coming in to the workforce with enthusiasm eager to put to practice what they have learned, but sadly enough they were devastated and demotivated by the older ones in the system and within no time they took the same attitude.
Who, which party or which Prime Minister will be bold enough to hire an Elon Musk type of person to come with a Chainsaw and cut all this waste out of our public sector.
I doubt it is the present PM. Much talk but all of the same. More concerned about the next election. And also very quick in defending his blue eye boys.
I mean no one is writing anything about what is presently going on at Social Security. All soc called reporters are silence and the Opposition is blind and deaf. But the so called Minister of Corporate Governance is supporting the very breaches of a proper run organization in which the Board is sidelined and even the Permanent Secretary and the Public Service Commission.
Scandal after scandal has been revealed yet all mouths are shut and not a drum is heard. I’ll see if my comments will even be published.
But Brix those are the things I wish you would write about. But I guess it will also show up how your party is complicit
