To commemorate International Children’s Day this year, the Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda hosted an event which students and children from several local primary and secondary schools as well as diplomatic corps participated.
H.E. Mme. Zhang Yanling, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda welcomed all to the Embassy for an experience of Chinese culture.
In her remarks Ambassador Zhang mentioned that this year 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Antigua and Barbuda and the past four decades have witnessed that the people-to-people exchanges and friendship between the two countries grow from strength to strength, laying solid foundation for the continuing development of bilateral relations.
The day was filled with lots of fun and laughter as students and children played several games placed around the Embassy which include a Pitch-pot game, originating from “Archery Ceremony” of the Six Arts in ancient China, a Chinese style beanbag toss game and a Bouncing Ping-Pong game.
Students also tried folding paper rabbits and Chinese calligraphy, writing Chinese characters as an art form using a brush and the ink.

This is commendable. Looks as though the children had a great experience and lots of fun. Kudos!!
The Chinese are playing the long game here. They are slowly alienating the Caribbean islands from Western civilization. The Chinese have done a lot for Antigua, no doubt, but trust me there’s a price to be paid for all that finance. “He who pays the piper calls the tune”. When the inevitable war breaks out between the USA & China I wonder whose side Antigua will choose. To be fair both political parties have courted the Chinese. Antiguans have been locked into this affair by the political leaders. I wonder if an independent poll was taken how it would lean, in favor of the Chinese or against, my opinion is against.
sounds like u mean “1 cent”
Wonder if they got to see the underground bunker which stretches very far beneath the earth?
No, I guess not. I hope we know what we are doing. Our young are very impressionable. They are already being made to learn mandarin when they could hardly speak English. Learning Chinese is like a badge of progress for some of our school heads, especially the ones in the private schools. Plenty show off here.
Chinese is a very difficult language and need the support of a decent English background. These kids should be focusing on English first. It is their first language and too many of them cannot speak it properly. If you doubt this, check the language arts scripts from the national assessment exams.
I hope we know what we are doing. We are inching up to a position that some African states are now backing away from with the Chinese.
Thanx
